Born in Kinsale, County Cork, Heard was the son of John Heard and Rachel, daughter of Isaac Servatt. He was admitted to Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1804, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1808.[6] He married Mary Wilkes, daughter of Hope Wilkes, in 1808, and they had six children: Joh Wilkes Heard (1811–1825); Robert Heard (born 1815); Martha Ann Heard (1809–1834); Catherine Jane Heard (born 1810); Mary Heard (born 1812); and, Eleanor (1814–1840).[2][3] He later became a Justice for the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant and, in 1839, High Sheriff of County Cork.[2][3] He was elected Whig Member of Parliament (MP) for Kinsale at a by-election in 1852—caused by the resignation of Benjamin Hawes—and held the seat until 1859, when he did not seek re-election.[7][2][6] References1. ^{{cite web |last1=Rayment |first1=Leigh |title=The House of Commons: Constituencies beginning with "K" |url=http://www.leighrayment.com/commons/Kcommons2.htm |website=Leigh Rayment's Peerage Page |accessdate=4 October 2018|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20181002213019/http://www.leighrayment.com/commons/Kcommons2.htm|archivedate=4 October 2018 |date=13 June 2017 |dead-url=no}} 2. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |title=Heard, John Isaac |url=http://venn.lib.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/search-2017c.pl?sur=&suro=w&fir=&firo=c&cit=&cito=c&c=all&z=all&tex=HRT804JI&sye=&eye=&col=all&maxcount=5 |website=A Cambridge Alumni Database |accessdate=4 October 2018}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite book |editor1-last=Howard |editor1-first=Joseph Jackson |title=Miscellanea genealogica et heraldica: Volume IV.
