释义 |
Jhon Jairo Arias Tascón alias Pinina (1961 – 14 June 1990[1]) was a member of the Medellín Cartel. He obtained power in the Cartel's military wing, hence he was accused of being responsible for hundreds of murders. He also was considered to be ranked fifth within the cartel structure. He was a hitman, boss of hitmen and leader of a criminal group known as Los Priscos, which was at Cartel's disposal [2]. His strident voice made him to be nicknamed as "Pinina". He was {{convert|5|ft|5|in|cm|abbr=on}} tall. There are few photos of him, since he was a reserved person [2] [3]. == Criminal career == childhood, he lived in the Medellin commune, more specifically in the town Lovaina. He was born to an extremely poor family. Being twelve years old, he became a thief, then was a member of a gang and finally became a hitman when being 15 years old [2]. Regarding how he became a member of the Cartel, there is a story stating that one day he went out to steal at a park near the cemetery San Pedro, where he stole a music player of a car that belonged to Pablo Escobar. One of Pablo's men started asking around on who had the thief and found it was Pinina. Since he liked Pinina's skills to steal the music player, he informed Pablo Escobar of it, who then asked Pinina to be a member of the Cartel [3]. Arias had a vast knowledge on the people living in the commune, which allowed him to recruit members for murder-for-hire. For instance, the first assassination ordered by the Medellín Cartel, i.e., the assassination of Rodrigo Lara, was delegated to him, who then hired Byron de Jesús Velásquez, Iván Darío Guizao Álvarez and the other member of the gang to commit such assassination in 1984 [2]. Pinina had participation in almost every criminal act ordered by the Cartel: the assassination of the minister Rodrigo Lara, the assassination of the El Espectador director Guillermo Cano Isaza in 1986, the bombing on the El Espectador building in 1989, the assassination of the Police Colonel Jaime Ramírez Gómez in 1986, the kidnapping and murder of Carlos Mauro Hoyos in 1988, the murder of the Antioquia governor Antonio Roldán Betancur in 1989, the assassination of the Police Colonel Valdemar Franklin Quintero in 1989, cooperation with the arrangement of the DAS Building bombing in 1989 (left 52 dead people and at least 600 wounded), involvement in the bombing of an Avianca airplane on 27 November 1989 (110 dead people), participation in the killing of many police men as well as the assassination of the magistrate of Colombian Supreme Court Hernando Baquero Borda in 1986, participation in the assassination of the presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán in 1989 as well as being involved in the war between the Medellin Cartel and the Cali Cartel and other criminal acts such as car-bombings [1][2][3]. DeathArias died on June 14, 1990, when the Colombian Police raided his apartment located in the neighbourhood El Poblado of Medellín. He tried to escape by a window at the third floor, but fell down, wounding severely his ankle, head and right arm. He then was able to stand and tried to walk to his car, but upon seeing police men in the parking area, he went up to the first floor, where he engaged in a firefight with the other police men and was finally killed. He was 29 years old. It is considered that after his death, the Medellín Cartel started to crumble. As a retaliation, Pablo Escobar ordered his men to put a car-bomb on the police house of El Poblado, causing grave damage [2]. His body was buried in the cemetery Campos de Paz in Medellín, then it was known that his body was completely exhumed [3]. MediaIn 2012, the Colombian private channel Caracol Televisión premiered the series Pablo Escobar, The Drug Lord, inspired by the life of Pablo Escobar, leader of the Medellín Cartel. In it, the character of John Jairo Arias was performed by the actor Anderson Ballesteros under the name Jhon Mario Ortiz alias ''El Chili''. In the series Bloque de búsqueda, produced by Teleset for Sony Pictures Television, broadcast in 2016 and inspired by the police force that disbanded the Medellín Cartel, his character was performed by the actor Sebastián Boscán, under the alias "Pinocho".
