CareerJuan Rodolfo Marín started in journalism when he joined the Coquimban newspaper {{ill|El Progreso (Coquimbo)|es|lt=El Progreso}}. On 2 June 1942, he founded the newspaper {{ill|El Regional|es}},[1] of which he remained the director until 1952 when he was succeeded by {{ill|Víctor Medina Díaz|es}}.[2] He served in the Agrarian Labor Party, and was elected councillor of the Municipality of Coquimbo by said party in the {{ill|Chilean municipal election, 1950|es|Elecciones municipales de Chile de 1950|lt=1950 municipal elections}}. He resigned this position in 1952 when he was appointed Governor of {{ill|Coquimbo Department|es|Departamento de Coquimbo}} by the newly elected President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo.
