释义 |
The Juggernaut of Nought is a steel and cast iron sculpture by Richard Trupp. The sculpture was originally exhibited in 2011[1] in the grounds of Great Fosters Hotel. Of this installation Trupp said "I intended the site-specific sculpture to look like a sculptural exclamation mark in the rural environment. It asks questions of its own existence. Where did it come from? What is it doing here? Is it safe?"[2] The work was displayed in the University of Leicester's eleventh "Annual Sculpture in the Garden" exhibition in the Harold Martin Botanic Garden.[3] It was exhibited at Burghley House's Sculpture Garden in 2015,[4] and as of 2016 it is installed outside Nottingham Trent University's Arkwright Building in Shakespeare Street.[5] The piece was installed in 2012 for the exhibition Since 1843: In the Making, celebrating 170 years of the university's School of Art and Design of the university.[5] Trupp said "It creates an interruption of the surrounding environment and creates a moment of pause, a moment to ponder."[7] It was designed as a tribute to Trupp's mentor Anthony Caro,[5]{{Failed verification|date=October 2017}} based on a small steel wedge Trupp found in the workshop of Caro and pocketed.[7]{{Dead link|date=October 2017}} Trupp says of the title that: "The word juggernaut implies a fast-moving piece of steel and the nought signifies a beginning".[7] The Nottingham Post described it as a "wedge of black cheese".[6] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://marcellejoseph.com/exhibitions/34/overview/ |title=Sculpture Al Fresco I | 7 June - 29 August 2011 | Marcelle Joseph Projects |website=Marcellejoseph.com |date=2011-08-29 |accessdate=2017-01-05}} {{coords|52.9676|-1.1523|display=title}}{{Use dmy dates|date=August 2016}}2. ^{{Cite journal|work=The Independent|title=Man of Steely Determination|date=23 June 2011|author=Charlotte Cripps|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/features/trupp-proves-to-be-a-man-of-steely-determination-2301684.html}} 3. ^{{Cite book|url=http://www2.le.ac.uk/offices/press/pdf-files/uploaded-to-ebulletin-2012/small_interesting_times_cat.pdf|title=Interesting times|author=Tom Flynn|date=2012|publisher=University of Leicester|pages=40–41}} 4. ^{{Cite journal|work=Stamford Living|date=June 2015|title=Funny Ha Ha @ Burghley House Sculpture Garden|page=49}} 5. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www4.ntu.ac.uk/apps/news/151338-15/Nottingham%27s_newest_public_artwork_is_a_tribute_to_the_late_Sir_Anthony_Car.aspx |title=Nottingham's newest public artwork is a tribute to the late Sir Anthony Caro - News - News and Events - Nottingham Trent University |website=Ntu.ac.uk |date= |accessdate=2017-01-05}} 6. ^1 2 3 {{cite news|url=http://www.nottinghampost.com/wedge-black-cheese-adds-new-flavour-city-art/story-20263434-detail/story.html |title=Nottingham's newest sculpture: A 'wedge of black cheese' adds new flavour to city art |newspaper=Nottingham Post |date=2013-12-05 |accessdate=2017-01-05}} 3 : Steel sculptures in England|Outdoor sculptures in England|Buildings and structures in Nottingham |
