Julius Schreiber (28 February 1848 in Schrimm – 18 September 1932 in Königsberg) was a German internist. In 1875, he received his medical doctorate from the University of Königsberg, obtaining his habilitation for internal medicine two years later as a student of Bernhard Naunyn. In 1878 he worked as assistant under Carl Ludwig and Julius Cohnheim at the University of Leipzig.[1] In 1883 he became an associate professor at Königsberg, where in 1886 he was named director of the medical polyclinic. In 1921 he became a full professor at the University of Königsberg.[2] He was known for his construction of endoscopic instruments that included an early esophagoscope.[2][3] Among his numerous written efforts were a treatise on the swallowing mechanism, titled "Ueber den Schluckmechanismus" and a work on brain pressure that he co-authored with Dr. Naunyn, "Über Gehirndruck" (1881).[1] References1. ^1 Schreiber, Julius Biographisches Lexikon hervorragender Ärzte {{DEFAULTSORT:Schreiber, Julius}}{{Germany-med-bio-stub}}2. ^1 [https://books.google.com/books?id=0-hrRQvGV7sC&pg=PA139&lpg=PA139&dq=%22Schreiber,+Julius%22+1848&source=bl&ots=3rdNl9mf_a&sig=WbxcQLCtID2M3qt1R5ptuayfNd0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj8jbKDiqbMAhVMl4MKHUH_CL0Q6AEITDAJ#v=onepage&q=%22Schreiber%2C%20Julius%22%201848&f=false Schmidt - Theyer edited by Walther Killy] Dictionary of German Biography 3. ^[https://books.google.com/books?id=P1ccAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA924&lpg=PA924&dq=Schreiber+esophagoscope&source=bl&ots=A_KOqV74XU&sig=qIICajU8O0pFis-45GiLz3LT_Ag&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjk_qbjjqbMAhWLkYMKHelnBOUQ6AEIJTAD#v=onepage&q=Schreiber%20esophagoscope&f=false The Philadelphia Medical Journal, Volume 10] edited by George Milbry Gould, James Hendrie Lloyd 8 : 1848 births|1932 deaths|German internists|19th-century German physicians|20th-century German physicians|People from Śrem|University of Königsberg faculty|University of Königsberg alumni |
