He was on the faculty of the University of Wyoming from the school's founding in 1887 until shortly before his death in 1939. He served as the school's head football coach from 1894 to 1897 and in 1899, compiling an 8–1–1 record. Early yearsSoule was born in Boston and educated at Harvard University.[1] He moved to Wyoming after graduating from Harvard and spent four years ranching and riding the range.[1] University of WyomingIn September 1887, the University of Wyoming was established, and Soule became one of the original faculty members, teaching Latin and Greek. He served on the faculty for more than 50 years, taking emeritus status after reaching the mandatory retirement age. Soule also served as the school's head football coach from 1894 to 1897 and 1899, compiling a record of 8–1–1. He also served at times as the university's vice president, librarian, liberal arts dean, and dean of men.[2][3][4] Family and deathHe was married to Dora Simpson. They had three children: Harold, Margaret, and Robert Homer.
