Kalle Oskari Mattila is a Finnish essayist,^[1]^[2] journalist,^[3] and memoirist.^[4] He is based in New York City.

Mattila contributes to The New York Times Magazine,^[5]^[6] The New York Times,^[7]^[8]^[9] The Atlantic,^[10]^[11] The Paris Review,^[12]^[13]^[14]^[15] Business Insider,^[16] and Monocle,^[17] as well as leading Finnish publications including Helsingin Sanomat,^[18]^[19] Matkalehti Mondo, and Matkaopaslehti. His work has been anthologised,^[20] and translated to several languages.^[21]^[22]^[23]^[24]^[25] He has also taught creative writing at Columbia University.^[26]^[27]

Mattila's essay for The New York Times 'Modern Love' column was adapted into audio form by actor Cory Michael Smith who read it at the Provincetown Film Festival.^[28]^[29] The reading later aired on the Modern Love Podcast^[30]^[31]^[32]^[33] on National Public Radio^[34] as well as in The New York Times.^[35]

Mattila has been featured extensively in Finnish media, in Helsingin Sanomat,^[36] as well as on the Finnish public broadcasting corporation main channel. YLE aired a full-length documentary about his writing life in 2004.^[37]^[38] The documentary, Kallen maailma,^[39] was directed by the Finnish politician Silvia Modig.
