The Kami-Akasaka Castle is a 14th century castle in Osaka, Japan. It is now largely ruins with little remaining evidence of the original structure.[1]

History

Kusunoki Masashige built the castle in 1332, in the midst of his conflict with the Kamakura Shogunate. The castle was surrounded by a deep valley on three sides.

Masashige had formed relations with local merchants, and had convenient financial concessions with the shōgun. Kusunoki Masashige escaped Siege of Akasaka castle by the shōgun{{'}}s forces, by faking his own death. He later raised another army, which regained the castle, though once again had to flee the castle after a second attack by the shogunate. He and his army then retreated, relocating to Chihaya castle.[1][2]
