It is the longest flyover in Andhra Pradesh with a length of 2.3km. It is expected to be inaugurated by March 2019.[1] GeographyThe Kanakadurga flyover is built around Indrakeeladri hill on which Kanaka Durga Temple is located.[1] It spans from Bhavanipuram near Gollapudi to PNBS while the road widening works are done up to Kanaka Durga Varadhi. This project has a total length of 5.29km of which 2.3km is flyover and remaining 2.9 are road widening works. This flyover crosses Krishna River, Prakasam Barrage[2] and Buckingham Canal near Indrakeeladri hill[3] and meets NH65[4] near PNBS.[5] HistoryAfter bifurcation a flyover was proposed by Government of Andhra Pradesh to control traffic flow between new state capital Amaravati and de facto capital Hyderabad on existing 15-20 feet highway around Durga temple.[6] The construction of Kanakadurga flyover was started on 22nd November 2015 and road level bridge was completed by 2016 for Krishna Pushkaralu and flyover is very difficult due to its plan and on The river Krishna. The land acquisition for this project costs around 100 crores for shifting of utilities like drinking water pipelines along the road. Later the deadline was extended to March 2019 after extending it for three times since - August 2017, March 2018, August 2018.[7] ConstructionIt is a six-lane highway with a width of 23.7 metres.[8] It is third of its kind in India by using pre-stress technology and is estimated to cost 282.4 crores which was later adjusted to 440 crores for inflation.[9] It has a unique and complex design with six-lane corridor supported by single pillar.[9] There are two underpasses in the flyover masterplan. Vertical gardening has been done on the column of this flyover along with a park for F1H20.[10] District administration has decided to allow traffic through the flyover prior to its completion to prevent traffic bottlenecks and congestions.[6] See also
