The ski resort is located in Aşkale district, {{convert|36|km|mi|abbr=on}} west of Erzurum. It was established in 2010 for the 2011 Winter Universiade. It covers an area of {{convert|160|ha|acre|abbr=on}} at elevations between {{convert|1713|and|1767|m|ft|abbr=on}} above mean sea level. The resort is open to the public the year around.[2] Kandilli Ski Resort features {{convert|2.5|,|3.75|and|5|km|mi|abbr=on}} long cross-country skiing trails, {{convert|1.3|and|1.6|km|mi|abbr=on}} long sprint tracks as well as a ski stadium.
