Synopsis

It is the story of two childhood friends Rishi and Tanushree, who grow up separately but are destined to be together as star-crossed lovers till Eternity. After 17 years, Rishi marries Tanushree but she is shot to death. She is reincarnated as Tanuja. Both Rishi and Tanuja die in a car accident and were reborn as Ranbir and Kritika to fulfill their promise.

Plot

The story revolves around Tanushree Khurana, fondly called Tanu Khurana and Rishi Singh Bedi who are childhood friends.

One day, Tanu saves Rishi from falling into a river and a Goddess Kali devotee and learned priestess named Kaatyayani Bai prophesizes that Tanu and Rishi's stars match very well, and Tanu will shield Rishi from every danger.

They are made for each other and will remain with each other for the next 7 births. But Raano, Rishi's mother, dislikes Tanu's family and brainwashes her husband and Rishi's father Raaj's mind to move to America.

17 years later

Tanu eagerly waits for Rishi to return. Rishi, who is now a boxer, loves to flirt with girls, and doesn't remember Tanu.

He denies going to India but Raaj threatens Raano to donate all his wealth and they all are forced to go to India. Rishi and his family reach Patiala, where Tanu resides, and on the same day Tanu's parents Shaarda and Veerendar are killed in a terrorist attack.

Raaj reaches Tanu's home and comes to know that his friend and Tanu's father Veerendar has died. Baani, Tanu's aunt, takes Rishi and his family to Mumbai, where Baani's own daughters, Swati and Neha reside.

Baani changes her daughter Neha's name to Tanu in front of Rishi's family. Tanu and Ahaana (Tanu's sister) also reach Mumbai. On the same night, Rishi and Tanu meet, and Rishi instantly falls for Tanu, without knowing that she is Tanu.

Rishi's marriage is fixed with Neha. Baani changes Tanu's name to Tanvi by saying that Raaj doesn't like Tanu and Ahaana. Tanu's marriage gets fixed with Pawan, a man from Jalandhar.

Rishi and Tanu's marriage is going to take place on the same day. Rishi finds out that Pawan is already married to a girl, Saloni and they want to use Tanu as their surrogate. Rishi fails to expose them.

On the day of their marriage, Tanu's sister Ahaana drugs Tanu and helps Rishi in kidnapping her. They both talk after which Tanu reveals that she is the real Tanu. After knowing the truth, they both happily marry, but Pawan follows them.

Everyone gets to know the truth by Ahaana, Kaatyayani Bai and Manpreet (Rishi's younger brother) that Pawan is married to Saloni and Tanvi is real Tanu. Hearing this the Bedis insult Neha and Bani for betraying them.

Neha decides to take revenge on Rishi's family for insulting her and lies to Sandy, her boyfriend that Rishi molested her and Sandy decides to kill Rishi. When Rishi and Tanu are about to travel back to home, Sandy tries to shoot Rishi but Tanu shields him and is shot. Tanu passes away in the arms of Rishi.

A heartbroken Rishi tries to commit suicide, but Tanu's soul saves him yet again and tells him that she will come only to reunite with him.

20 years later

Tanu is reborn in the form of Sandy's niece as Tanuja Vikram Sikand. Rishi becomes heartless after Tanu's sudden demise. In an accident, Tanuja's face gets burnt badly, and doctor advises her to go in for plastic surgery. Beeji (Rishi's grandmother) mistakenly hands over Tanu's picture to the doctor and Tanuja gets Tanu's face. Rishi becomes more rude towards Tanuja. Also, Rishi now hates Tanuja as she is Sandy's niece.

On the day of Rishi's marriage with his friend Malaika, who wants Rishi's property, Raaj (Rishi's father) sees Malaika with her boyfriend Shekhar Singh Ahlawat. Raaj asks Tanuja to be the bride without anyone's knowledge while Malaika gets late for the marriage as she is stuck in a traffic jam. Rishi marries Tanuja.

One day Tanuja visits a hospital where a gynaecologist presents a report to her saying she is 3 months pregnant. Malaika overhears this conversation and informs Rano. They plan to tell this news to Rishi. When Rishi sees the report he gets furious at her for getting pregnant with someone else's child and decides to divorce her. But he is stopped by Raaj's intervention. Rishi's hatred towards Tanuja increases. One day Malaika insults her in front of the Bedi family for betraying their trust nd tries to throw her from the house but Smiley who is Manpreet and Ahaana's teenage daughter stops Malaika from doing so. She confesses that she is pregnant and not Tanuja. Tanuja makes the doctor write her name in the report in place of Smiley so that Smiley's parents don't come to know about it.

Hearing this Rishi and the Bedi family feel sad for misunderstanding Tanuja and apologise to her.

Meanwhile, Rishi plans to get married to Malaika to reveal her truth to the family. Also he starts to develop feelings for Tanuja.

On the marriage day, Rishi takes revenge on Malaika and reveals her real intentions. Later, Malaika is thrown out of Bedi house. On that very night, Rishi and Tanuja consummate their marriage. During this time Tanuja gets to know of her past and realises she is Tanu and she took birth to keep the promise she gave to Rishi of coming back to him before passing away. But she doesn't tell this to him. Due to circumstances, Tanuja tells Rishi to divorce her as she thinks that she is unlucky for him and he will die if Tanuja remains in his life as his wife.

Rishi agrees and they both sign divorce papers but later they are reunited as Tanuja gets to know she is right for Rishi. Rishi's step-brother Poorab Bohra comes and demands 51% shares of Rishi's company to take revenge from Raj. Rishi goes to give him 51% shares but Tanuja gets all Rishi's property and Bedi family business on her name to stop Rishi giving 51% shares to Poorab as he wants to destroy Rishi.

Divya, the wife of Yuvraaj (Rishi's elder/adoptive brother) joins hands with Poorab as she thinks they treat Yuvraaj badly. Netra, Raano's friend's daughter loves Rishi and Raano wants Netra to marry Rishi. Rishi agrees to marry Netra so he can make Tanuja jealous so she confesses her love.

On the day of Rishi and Netra's engagement, Rishi gets angry on Tanuja and tells her to sign property papers in 15 minutes and give his property back to him otherwise he will get engaged to Netra. Tanuja signs the property papers but Malaika steals the papers and gives it to Netra and asks her to take the credit of getting the property back. Rishi gets engaged to Netra. Rishi gets drunk. Tanuja sees Rishi getting very close to Netra.

Netra takes advantage of Rishi's drunken state and tries to show Tanuja that they are getting intimate. Netra's trap gets successful. Thus, Tanuja leaves the Bedi House. Rishi goes to stop her at the railway station but they have a fight there and Rishi slaps Tanuja in anger and she leaves. Tanuja realises that she is pregnant with Rishi's child but it was too late.

7 years later

Tanuja lives with her friend Abhishek Khurana and her and Rishi's daughter Natasha in London. Rishi lives with Netra and her daughter, Tanya. Natasha and Tanya assume Abhishek and Rishi as their respective fathers. Rishi and Abhishek also love them as their own daughters.

Tanuja is Abhishek's caretaker. Tanuja and Abhishek pretend to be a married couple in front of the world so do Rishi and Netra. Abhishek comes to India with Tanuja and Natasha to take over Rishi's company. Abhishek and Rishi are business competitors.

Rishi and Tanuja bump into each other but Rishi is disheartened on finding that Tanuja is married to Abhishek and has a daughter, not knowing that Natasha is his and Tanuja's child.

One day Netra discovers the truth that Tanuja and Abhishek are not married and Natasha is Rishi's daughter. She presents Natasha's DNA reports to Rishi stating he is Natasha's biological father.

After many incidents, Rishi decides to get Natasha's custody along with Tanuja while Tanuja misunderstood Rishi and Netra to be in a live-in relationship. Meanwhile, Abhishek starts falling for Tanuja but doesn't confess it fearing Tanuja would leave his house. But then Tanuja insists him to marry her as she wishes to move on in life and secure a future for Natasha. Rishi stops Abhishek and Tanuja's wedding hence leaving Netra. Tanuja applies for divorce with Rishi but on the day of hearing, Natasha reaches the court and tells the judge that she wants to stay with Rishi and that Tanuja also misses him a lot. The court orders Tanuja to stay in Bedi house with Rishi and Natasha for six months, for the sake of Natasha and sort out their differences. After the time period she can divorce Rishi. Abhishek and Netra are heartbroken with this. Netra vows to ruin Tanuja while Rishi tries to rekindle his and Tanuja's love. Meanwhile, Ahaana misunderstands Manpreet of having an affair with his secretary.

Manpreet tries to save his relationship with Ahaana but all his efforts go in vain as Ahaana decides to part ways after Raano and Raaj's anniversary celebration. But before it was too late Ahaana got to know the truth and apologizes to Manpreet and Manpreet accepts her. A fire breaks in the party where Rishi saves Tanuja and the Bedis shift to Abhishek's house till their house is under repair.

Abhishek tells Tanuja that he fell in love with her. She gets furious at him for breaking her trust but then forgives him on Rishi's wish. Meanwhile, Netra is not giving up and tries to separate them.

Natasha and Tanya go for a summer camp. Natasha calls up Rishi and Tanuja as she misses them and they visit the children. At the summer camp Tanuja has an emotional breakdown where she confesses the real reason for leaving him. She reveals how painful it was for her to accept the fact that Tanya is Netra and Rishi's daughter. Rishi then realises that Tanuja misunderstood him all this while and tells her that Tanya is, in reality, Smiley's daughter. After Tanya's birth the Bedis got Smiley married to a nice guy and Rishi adopted Tanya and since then Netra has raised her as her own daughter. Tanuja and Rishi realise that this was Netra's trap to separate them. They then share a romantic moment.

Netra gets jealous on seeing them happy together.

Next day Netra hires a mechanic and bribes him for failing the breaks of Rishi's car. Abhishek discovers Netra's plan and informs Tanuja to not sit in the car. But it was too late. Rishi and Tanuja were already in the car. Realising their end is near Tanuja reveals to Rishi that she is Tanu and that she came to fulfil her promise. They breakdown and promise each other of meeting again in the next birth. Their car falls in a cliff and Abhishek reaches there and takes them to the hospital. Abhishek gets emotional and tells to the Bedi Family that Netra is responsible for this. The Bedi family announce the death of Tanuja to Rishi. Having faced the loss of Tanu again, a heartbroken Rishi commits suicide by injecting himself with poison.

25 years later

Rishi & Tanu are reborn as Ranbir Kapoor & Kritika Kohli. Ranbir is a famous soccer player in Canada, while Kritika lives with her mother in Punjab. Her mother had raised her as a single parent as she was under the impression that Kritika's father Arun Kohli had died in a fire accident in Mumbai where he had earlier gone to work. One day, Kritika's mother, while watching television, notices her long lost husband Arun giving in to news reporters about sudden unemployment in the city. She is shocked to know that the father of her daughter is alive and decides to take Kritika to Mumbai to see him.

The next morning Kritika's mother returns home with two flight tickets for Mumbai. This surprises Kritika who assumes it to be her mother's plan to get her married to a suitable groom in Mumbai. At Mumbai airport, on the same day as Kritika arrives with her mother. Ranbir also arrives with his mother Mahima, his father Balraaj and cousin Akshay for a football match. This is followed by several destined hit-and-miss moments between Kritika and Ranbir that gives them a strange feeling of déjà vu. Next, Kritika is taken to her father's workplace at a shopping mall by her mother.

While Kritika's mother goes in search for her father, a fire breaks out at the mall causing havoc. At the same time, Ranbir and Akshay arrive at the same mall to fetch water to drink for Mahima and get trapped in the commotion. Akshay and Kritika manage to exit the mall safely, whereas Ranbir stays inside to help Kritika's mother who is injured due the human stampede. Ranbir, somehow escapes the danger with Kritika's mother and Kritika leaves with her mother for hospital as the latter had inhaled a fatal amount of smoke.

At the hospital, the doctor declares he couldn't save Kritika's mother and that she should see and meet her one last time. On her deathbed, Kritika's mother discloses it to Kritika that her biological father Arun, who was assumed to be dead, is indeed alive and she had come to Mumbai to meet him. She hands Kritika the address of Arun, her father that she had earlier received at his workplace at the mall and takes a final promise from Kritika that she would find Arun

With this Kritika's mother dies leaving Kritika distraught and shaken. After her mother's death, Kritika moves to find her father, Arun who lives in Mumbai with another woman he is married to, named Pammi and has two daughters, Ishaani (an aspiring fashion model) and Jiyana (an aspiring interior designer).

In spite of finding Arun and disclosing it to him that she is his daughter from his first marriage, Arun refuses to accept Kritika as her daughter before his current family. Although he regrets cheating on Kritika's mother and abandoning Kritika, he requests Kritika to not reveal the truth to his current family and introduces Kritika as his niece.

Seeing Kritika, Arun's second wife Pammi is infuriated as there are not enough resources to sustain a relative in her house. She asks Kritika to immediately search for some employment and support the household. The next day onwards, Kritika's search for law internship begins as she is a law graduate. The next few days are followed by Ranbir and Kritika meeting for the first time in their present life; Kritika being appointed as the intern of Advocate Vikaas Sharma.

Meanwhile, Ranbir's father Balraaj gets involved into a legal battle over the custody of his ancestral mansion with its caretaker Aayush Batra while Ishaani being crowned the winner of Miss Ghatkopar beauty contest and Kritika being assaulted, molested and later kidnapped by the corporator of the municipality, Ashok who also happens to have lent Arun some money.

Eventually, Ranbir rescues Kritika from Ashok's den but they still do not get along. Circumstances make Ranbir and Kritika bump into each other all the time and they both still dislike each other. On the other hand, Jiyana and Akshay also dislike each other. But, Jiyana later falls for Akshay when he manages to rescue her, Kritika and many customers at a bank where burglars had entered and created a ruckus. This is done by Akshay with a lot of help by Ranbir who was in Canada at the time for a football tournament.

Recently, A party was held in Ranbir's honor & Kritika went to the party along with Ishaani and Jiyana under Pammi's command. There, the host of the party developed a fascination for Kritika and continued hitting on her, much to Kritika's anguish. When Kritika rejects him, he and his friends molest her and to escape from them she gets locked in a cold storage room and was on the verge of death when suddenly Ranbir came to her rescue. But Ranbir too gets trapped there and to save a frozen Kritika from passing out he applies cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her. Then Jiyana saved them when they were unconscious.

Meanwhile, Ranbir tells Kritika about his feelings for her but Kritika disregards his feelings as she is shaken by the thought of him pressing his lips on hers for ventilation. While Kritika returns home with Jiyana, Ranbir is left distraught At the hotel where the party had taken place due to Kritika misunderstanding him. At the same time now, Malishka (Aayush Batra's daughter), with some help from her cousin, spikes Ranbir's drink and tries to seduce him.

Then, Malishka plans to get Ranbir arrested under fake molestation charges, but her plans thwarted when Ranbir slaps her hard and leaves the hotel. The next morning, Ranbir messages Kritika who after initial hesitation calls him. On the call, Ranbir requests her to come to his house for the sake of their new friendship, to which Kritika agrees. But before Kritika, Malishka arrives to Ranbir's house with her father, her cousin and the police with an arrest warrant against Ranbir that he tried to molest her.

Later, Ranbir is arrested, but Akshay bails him out after some time. On returning home, Ranbir is worried that Kritika couldn't meet his family and decides to go to Kritika's home and explain to her about the events of the day. He breaks into her room through the window and Kritika is surprised and shocked at the same time. She tries to evict him out of her house but Ishaani spots him leaving Kritika's room and awakens the entire family. This is followed by Ranbir meeting and greeting the Kohli family, Akshay arriving at the Kohli residence in search of Ranbir and they all taking photographs together.

After Ranbir gains Kritika's trust, he and Akshay return home and find Malishka and Aayush Batra threatening Balraaj and Mahima to leave the country and go back to Canada or else Ranbir would have to spend his days behind the bars. Ranbir, who has had enough of Malishka, slaps her and threatens to expose her lies before the court. He challenges the father-daughter duo to continue with the fake case and remarks that the truth shall always prevail.

Ranbir eventually wins the case against Malishka with the help of Kritika. Malishka in anger tries to kill everyone at Ranbir’s home when they hosted a puja at their home by burning the house. In the fire, Ranbir and Kritika get stuck, where Ranbir expresses his love to Kritika. Kritika is overjoyed on hearing that Ranbir loves her as she too secretly loved him. Just then a pillar falls on Ranbir and he becomes unconscious. On seeing this, Kritika screams "Rishi!" and recalls her previous lives as Tanu and Tanuja. She tries to wake up Ranbir and reminds him of the promise they made to each other of uniting in the next birth. Ranbir also recognises his Tanu and they hug each other. Akki and Jiyana get together after realising their love for each other. The show ends as Ranbir and Kritika finally were able to be united in this birth.
