Of the vocabulary tested, 55.38 percent of the language is Thai loanwords.[6]n These loanwords are grouped into two subtypes: direct from Thai or a Thai word added to an existing Kasong word. [3]This high percentage is indicative of the language's route to potential extinction as Thai overtakes it and engulfs it. More than 50 years ago, all Kasong people were forbidden to use the Kasong language in their families and with others as a result of governors believing that speaking Kasong interfered with speaking Thai. [3] Thus, Kasong speakers taught their descendants Thai instead of Kasong. [3]Thai nationalism led to the Kasong people becoming ashamed of their language and not being concerned with its preservation. [3] The Kasong language and its people is representative of Thailand's many ethnolinguistic minorities [7] References1. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.unesco.org/culture/languages-atlas/en/atlasmap/language-id-1001.html|title=UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in danger|website=www.unesco.org|language=en|access-date=2018-08-08}} {{Languages of Thailand}}{{Austro-Asiatic languages}}{{Austroasiatic-lang-stub}}2. ^http://sealang.net/sala/archives/pdf8/sunee2003syntactic.pdf 3. ^1 2 3 4 5 Noppawan Thongkham (2003).
