Khant Dynasty was a short lived dynasty of Gujarat. It was founded by a chief Thakor Sonang Mer who came from Sindh to Gujarat.

History

Khant Dynasty was a tribal dynasty of Kolis. It ruled over Dhandhuka, Dhandhalpur, Petlad, Mahiyari and Bilkha, Girnar hill. The Dhandhuka and Dandhalpur was founded and named by Thakor Dhan Mer (also known as Dhandhal Khant) who was second son of Sonang Mer. The Petlad was founded and named by Sonang Mer's son Patal Khant and Mahiyari was founded by Mer Rana (also known as Mehar Singhji Khant). The Bilkha and Girnar hill was ruled by Sonang Mer's son Jesaji Khant (Jaisinghji Khant).

Jeso Khant was most famous from Khant Dynasty because he defeated the Rao Khengarji I of Chudasama dynasty of Junagadh with the support of Sultan Muhammad bin Tughluq of Delhi Sultanate. He was granted the reward of Bilkha chobishi and Girnar hill by Sultan.

Dhan Mer also known for his conquer at Vala and Talaja. He defeated Rajput king Ebhal Walo of Vala. Ebhal Walo oppressed the Brahmins of his territory so they went to Dhandhuka ruled by Dhan Mer. Where they requested to live in Dhandhuka and explained their clash in Vala by Ebhal Walo. After that Thakor Dhan Mer marched with his army of five thousand soldiers against Rajput king and defeated him. Dhan Mer annexed his territory in Dhandhuka and settled the four hundred Brahmins in his state.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
