Khlong Sathon ({{lang-th|คลองสาทร}}) is a khlong (คลอง; canal) in Bangkok. It is a small waterway.

Geography

It starts from eastern Chao Phraya river under Taksin bridge near the Chaloem Phan 53 bridge, which is the border between Sathon and Bang Rak districts and continues along the length of Sathon road. It is divided between North Sathon (inbound) and South Sathon roads (outbound). Before the end of the Witthayu Intersection, four-way intersection of Sathon, Rama IV, Wireless roads, including the end of Sathon road in the area of Pathum Wan district near Lumphini Park.

History

It is named after Luang Sathon Rajayukta (หลวงสาทรราชายุกต์) or Yom Pisolyabutra (ยม พิศาลบุตร), a Chinese businessman who dug the canal for use as a main route to his rice trade during the reign of King Rama V in 1895. Initially, it was not officially named. The general public began calling it Khlong Sathon Rajayukta or Khlong Jao Sua Yom (lit: wealthy Chinese Yom canal). Later it became "Khlong Sathon".

Later on "Sathon", became the official name of Sathon district.[1]
