The Kiddy Contest is a televised singing competition for children aged 8 to 14 years, broadcast and organized annually by the Austrian broadcaster ORF from 1995 to 2011. It was also broadcast in Germany by ZDF and RTL. Since 2012, this show is aired by the Austrian commercial broadcaster Puls 4. The format was invented by the music producer Erwin Kiennast and Norman Weichselbaum.

Every year, ten children from Germany, Austria and a case of Switzerland sing a current pop hit for which Norman Weichselbaum has written a new German text. The winner determines the TV audience via voting.

From season 1–15 there were also duets.

Broadcast

The Kiddy Contest 1996 took place on a Saturday morning in November 1996. During the Kiddy Contest 1995 and 1996 a semifinals took place over the course of several weeks for the ORF / Confetti TiVi program "Saturday Game" moderated by Edith Rolles two performers.

In 1997, there was a separate Kiddy contest semifinals, also shown again on Saturdays at Confetti Tivi for five weeks. It was moderated by Elmer Rossnegger. As of 1998 there was no longer a semifinals on TV, the preselection took place by a professional jury. 2015 the semifinalshows have been broadcast on the two Saturdays before the final. On both days, ten children each, who sing in the duet, five of them come to the final.

In addition to broadcasting in ORF 1, the Kiddy Contest has also been broadcast several times on German television, which means that it is also freely available on the Astra 1 satellite throughout Europe. In the years 2000 to 2002, the ZDF was a co-organizer of the show, where by in these years half of the participants from Germany came, and the show was shown on ZDF. In the years 2001 and 2002 she was also transferred to KiKA. After 2002 the ZDF decided not to participate any more, whereby the Kiddy Contest 2003 became purely Austrian production.

Already in 2004 the ORF again found a new partner, this time it was the German private Super RTL. At the Sendeschema changed nothing, where by Super RTL was also forced to renounce the otherwise usual advertising interruptions during the show. The cooperation with Super RTL lasted until 2006.

The Kiddy Contest 2007 was again only a single production of ORF. The previous specials in the lunch program were replaced by the series "Kiddy Contest – Das Camp", which was broadcast for several days in the afternoon program of ORF 1. The series documented the participation of the participants of the Kiddy Contest 2007 in Schloss Hof in Lower Austria.

In 2008 the Kiddy Contest was shown again on ORF 1 and Super RTL. The final took place on 1 November 2008 at 20:15. Moderator was again Mirjam Weichselbraun.

The Kiddy Contest 2009 was recorded in the Austria Center Vienna on 31 October, and a week later, on 7 November, at ORF 1, at 4.45 pm. For the German fan base, the children's transmitter Nickelodeon in the German-speaking area aired the show a day later. The show was moderated by Benny Hörtnagl, star guests were Daniel Schuhmacher and Mandy Capristo (Monrose).

In 2010 the Kiddy Contest was broadcast live on ORF 1 with the new presenter Kati Bellowitsch, Nickelodeon showed a 60-minute summary a week later.

For the years 2012 to 2015, the private person Puls 4 secured the rights to the broadcast. Presenter of the show has been Silvia Schneider since 2015. In 2015 the broadcast will be broadcast for the first time via live stream on the Internet and in the app of Puls 4.
