It is possible the Abbey and its townland are now known as Kildermot due to patronage by the Mac Diarmada; no connection to any St Dermot can be claimed. The Abbey was partially destroyed after the Penal Laws of 1697. Two holy water fonts from the Abbey were recovered from the lake by a Mr. Thomas Gallagher. One has been returned to the Abbey, while the other is in the National Museum of Ireland. Kildermot Abbey became a National Monument in 1939. Dawn Mass is celebrated annually at the ruins on Easter Sunday.[4] BuildingThe church's west gable is pulled down, but the foundation is still traceable. Its side walls and east gable remain. In this gable is a lancet window, widened inside and arched above, fashioned of rudely cut stones. The whole church measures {{convert|5.5|x|3.5|m|ft|abbr=on}}.[5] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://fatherpeytoncentre.ie/about-the-centre/attymass-parish/|title=Attymass Parish « Father Peyton Center|website=Fatherpeytoncentre.ie}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.con-telegraph.ie/news/roundup/articles/2015/09/27/4106512-attymass-celebrates-missionary-work-of-saint-patrick/|title=Connaught Telegraph - Attymass celebrates missionary work of saint patrick|website=Con-telegraph.ie}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.eirgridgroup.com/site-files/library/EirGrid/IEP-Report_August2015_Grid%20West.pdf|format=PDF|title=The Grid West Project : First Report|website=Eirgridgroup.com|accessdate=26 December 2018}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://manchesteririshfestival.co.uk/news/history-created-easter-sunday-mayo-abbey|title=History created on Easter Sunday at Mayo Abbey - Manchester Irish Festival|website=Manchesteririshfestival.co.uk}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.paradisepossible.ie/Mayo/Resources/Kildermott-Abbey|title=Mayo Paradise Possible - Western Ireland > Mayo > Resources > Kildermott Abbey|website=Paradisepossible.ie}} 4 : Premonstratensian monasteries in the Republic of Ireland|Religion in County Mayo|Archaeological sites in County Mayo|National Monuments in County Mayo |
