It lies approximately {{convert|12|mi|km|abbr=on}} north of the town of Newton Stewart.[2] The loch is stocked with brown trout and fishing. The Newton Stewart Angling Association manage fishing on the loch.[3] SurveyThe loch was surveyed[2] in 1903 by James Murray and later charted [4] as part of Sir John Murray's Bathymetrical Survey of Fresh-Water Lochs of Scotland 1897-1909.
