{{infobox scientist/Wikidata | fetchwikidata=ALL}}Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo is an American physician and epidemiologist, and Lee Goldman, MD Endowed Chair in Medicine at University of California, San Francisco.[1] She was appointed inaugural vice dean for Population Health and Health Equity in the UCSF School of Medicine. She chairs the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.[2] She is an alumni trustee at Princeton University.[3][4]

Early life and college

Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo was born in Stuttgart, Germany[5] while her family was stationed in the country. Bibbins-Domingo lived in various countries like Panama and Nigeria.[5] After moving to Maryland, Bibbins-Domingo attended a public science tech high school.[5]

She graduated from Princeton University in 1987,[3] and University of California, San Francisco. She studied chemistry[2] at the University of Ibadan.[2]

Career

In 2013, Bibbins-Domingo started a stroke prevention project tasked at lowering strokes in African Americans and young people.[6]

In 2016, she was named chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force[7] six years after she became a member of the task force.[2] Bibbins-Domingo is currently a professor at University of California, San Francisco[8]

In 2017, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and Bibbins-Domingo dropped their opposition to PSA testing for prostate cancer.[9] Bibbins-Domingo appeared on PBS in 2017 to cement her and her task force's reversal on the test.[10] Bibbins-Domingo also publicly advocated for sales taxes to be put on sweetened beverages and sodas.[11][12]

Personal life

Bibbins-Domingo's son, Stephen played College Basketball for Georgetown[13] and played professional basketball in the Dutch Basketball League.[14] Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo is currently married to Patrick Domingo.[13]
