In the new design, that has been replaced by a "headrace canal". This has reduced project costs and construction time.[1] The budgeted cost of construction is US$24 million.[1] Construction timelineConstruction began in early 2017 and commissioning is expected in the second quarter of 2019. 3 Sri lankan civil contractors; KSJ Construction, SSP Engineers and Sanken Overseas are actively engaged on the project[1] See also{{stack|{{Portal|Uganda|Water|Renewable energy}}}}
