Kyle Hayes (born 1998) is an Irish hurler who plays as a centre-forward for club side Kildimo-Pallaskenry and at inter-county level with the Limerick senior hurling team.

Playing career

Inter-county

Minor and under-21

Hayes first played for Limerick at minor level in 2015, in a season which ended with a defeat by Galway in the All-Ireland quarter-final.[1] He was eligible for the minor grade once again the following year. On 4 September 2016, Hayes was at full-forward when Limerick were defeated by Tipperary in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park.[2]

Hayes subsequently joined the Limerick under-21 hurling team and won a Munster Championship medal in his first season after a 0-16 to 1-11 defeat of Cork in the final.[3] On 9 September 2017, Hayes was at centre-back in Limerick's 0-17 to 0-11 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final.[4] He was later named on the Bord Gáis Energy Team of the Year.[5]

Senior

Hayes made his first appearance for the Limerick senior hurling team on 12 February 2017 in a 1-14 to 0-14 defeat by Wexford in the National Hurling League.[6] Later that season he made his first championship appearance, scoring 1-01 from play, in a 3-17 to 2-16 defeat by Clare in the Munster Championship.[7]

On 19 August 2018, Hayes scored four points from play when Limerick won their first All-Ireland title in 45 years after a 3-16 to 2-18 defeat of Galway in the final.[8] He was later named man of the match.[9] Hayes ended the season by being nominated for an All-Star Award, while he was also named Young Hurler of the Year.[10][11]

On 31 March 2019, Hayes was selected at centre-forward for Limerick's National League final meeting with Waterford at Croke Park. He collected a winners' medal following the 1-24 to 0-19 victory.[12]
