The building was designed by Chicago architect Henry Lloyd Gay and built by Frederick Bush. It is built in the Venetian Gothic Revival style.[4] Built in 1879, the building became a Michigan State Historic Site in 1961 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.[4][5] Architectural details include ornamental ironwork, decorative tiles, and stained glass windows.[6] Current statusThe Ladies Library Association Building is still occupied by the Ladies' Library Association of Kalamazoo. In 2013 the LLA completed restoration of the building which brought the structure to present-day code. In 2015 it received the State History Award in Historic Restoration.[7] References1. ^{{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places in Michigan}}{{Registered Historic Places}}2. ^{{cite web |title=Kalamazoo's first feminists: Ladies Library Association blazed a trail for women and the community |url=https://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2013/09/kalamazoos_first_feminists_lad.html |website=MLive Michigan |accessdate=21 October 2018}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=Kalamazoo Ladies’ Library Association |url=http://seekingmichigan.org/look/2012/05/08/klla |website=Seeking Michigan |accessdate=20 October 2018 |language=en}} 4. ^1 2 {{cite web |title=Ladies Library Association |url=http://www.kpl.gov/local-history/women/ladies-library/ |website=Kalamazoo Public Library |accessdate=20 October 2018 |language=en}} 5. ^{{cite web |title=Ladies Library Association Building |url=https://npgallery.nps.gov/AssetDetail/NRIS/70000274 |website=NPGallery Asset Detail |accessdate=20 October 2018 |language=en}} 6. ^{{cite web |title=Ladies' Library Association |url=https://www.discoverkalamazoo.com/member-detail/ladies-library-association/ |website=Discover Kalamazoo |accessdate=21 October 2018}} 7. ^{{cite web |title=Our History |url=http://ladieslibrarykzoo.org/our-history/ |website=Ladies’ Library Association |accessdate=22 October 2018}} 5 : Women's club buildings|Buildings and structures in Kalamazoo County, Michigan|National Register of Historic Places in Kalamazoo County, Michigan|Cultural infrastructure completed in 1878|1879 establishments in Michigan |
