It was built in the 1890s for Harvey Marion LaFollette, the owner of the LaFollette Coal and Iron Company.[2] LaFollette also built the North Tennessee Railroad.[2] His brother Grant lived in the house until he sold it to the Russell family in 1930.[2] The house was designed in the Victorian architectural style.[2] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 29, 1975.[3] See also
