Notable private sector clients include TransCanada Pipelines, Agrium, and Hertz Corporation. History and OverviewThe firm was founded in 2000 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The objective of the organization is assisting national and multinational organizations to operate efficiently without language barriers. It opened its first international operation in 2008 in Portugal to service its European Union clientele. They were one of the first translation services companies to be certified as per EN 15038 Translation Service (which was replaced in 2015 by ISO 17100), as well as CGSB131.10 2008 Certification set out by the Canadian Standards Board. Awards and recognitionLanguage Marketplace was featured on January 28, 2004 in a published article in one of Toronto's largest newspapers, Toronto Sun. The company was consulted as experts within the Canadian conference interpretation industry. The article titled Lost in Translation? Not for these Professionals.[2] In 2010, Language Marketplace was featured on the Rogers TV show In Business. The interview[3] with its founder, Ema Dantas, reviewed the company's inception, growth, and logistics involved in processing translation services. In 2012, Language Marketplace, under the helm of Ema Dantas, was recognized in the Chatelaine W100. This award goes to Canada's Top 100 Female Entrepreneurs.[4] The combined contribution to the Canadian economy was 1.4 billion dollars. A review of the awardees, indicates that Language Marketplace was the only translation service listed. The article was printed in Chatelaine magazine on September 27, 2012. In 2013, it was announced that Language Marketplace was named to the prestigious Profit 500 listing,[5] as one of Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies, and ranked 30th in the business services category. The Awards Ceremony was in Toronto, on June 5, 2013. In 2015, Language Marketplace and its founder, Ema Dantas, was awarded the WBE Canada President’s Award[6] for contributions made in assisting woman in the government procurement process. WBE Canada[7] is supported by the Status of Woman Canada. CommunityAs listed on their website, Language Marketplace contributes to a number of social and charitable programs in partnership with various organizations. Its focus is a combination of hands-on community involvement and financial donations. From 2012 to 2015 its Social Responsibility page on its website mentions sponsorship to a number of charities focusing on ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis); in 2011, one of its French Translators was diagnosed with the disease. Language Marketplace is also a strong web design advocate for cross-cultural communication and accessibility as it relates to the web and document design parameters to provide equal access to persons with disabilities. In support of these initiatives, Language Marketplace has provided no-cost translations for: • The W3C Internationalization (I18n) Activity works with W3C working groups and liaises with other organizations to make it possible to use Web technologies with different languages. Languages include Spanish,[9] French,[10] and Portuguese.[11] • WebAIM Center for Persons with Disabilities. They provide information, training, resources, guidelines and standards for Web accessibility and disability access to the Web. Language Marketplace contributes French translation[12] and Spanish translation[13] to a wide array of articles. Memberships and CertificationsLanguage Marketplace is a certified translation services provider. The company has the following certifications and memberships: ISO 17100:2015 Certified: International Organization for Standardization. This standard provides requirements for the core quality processes, resources, and other aspects necessary for the delivery of a quality translation service that meets applicable specification. CGSB131.10 2008 Certified:[14] This is Canadian national translation standard developed by the Canadian General Standards Board and approved by the Standards Council of Canada.
