Lansweeper scans, discovers and inventories all available Windows, Linux and Mac-operated workstations and IP-addressable network devices. Lansweeper's deepscan engine utilizes a wide variety of network protocols to discover, identify and retrieve data from any network capable device. All the retrieved data is stored in either a SQL Compact or SQL Server database. Due to its open database design reporting can be done using standard SQL Server database queries which can be visually created using the built-in report builder. Apart from hardware and software tracking, the software also has other features such as a deployment module for deploying software, updates or scripts on Windows computers and a help-desk ticketing system. IT Network InventoryNetwork InventoryLansweeper provides a complete overview of an IT environment by scanning a network using a range of scanning methods and protocols to identify and retrieve data. Most devices like Windows, Linux or Mac devices can be scanned using either active directory scanning or IP range scanning. For specialized devices, like AWS or Azure servers, separate scanning methods are available. Additionally, specialized platforms like Office 365, Exchange, vCenter and Citrix also have their specific scanning methods. Network devices are scanned using the protocols they support. Most network devices will be scanned using SNMP or UPNP, but Lansweeper also supports protocols like JetDirect, Chromecast, Bonjour, DNS-SD and SSDP to gather any data provided by network devices. ReportingLansweeper has over 400 built-in reports that can be used to report and any data retrieved. Warranty status, OS information, Free disk space, Local administrators, Anti-virus status, Software changes and BIOS version are just some examples of the built-in report library. Each report is fully customizable in the included visual report builder. The report builder is an SQL query visualizer which allows for drag and drop report building or, if preferred, editing the SQL query directly. The feature of running SQL queries on an SQL database allows for unlimited possibilities to report on the data set Lansweeper provides. IT Asset ManagementAfter your network's data has been retrieved, managing assets within Lansweeper can be done by using the groups, relations, location maps, asset actions, deployments and alerts. GroupsLansweeper features three built-in methods to group assets, static groups, dynamic groups and IP Address Range locations. Static groups allow for the creation of groups with a specific set of assets. Dynamic groups use conditions to dynamically populate the group with assets. IP Address Range locations allows for the creation of locations based on an IP Range to group assets based on their IP address. RelationsRelations in Lansweeper allow for assets to be related to assets or users. You can automatically makes users owners of the assets they have the most logons on, and create many other relations like backed up to, controlled by, used by, borrowed by and more. Other relations between assets and users are automatically created during the scanning of assets like virtual machines, which are automatically related to their host. The same goes for cloud assets which are related to their resource group or VPC. Location MapsThe location map feature allows for assets to be pinned on a blueprint of a building. Locating the physical location of assets can this way be simplified. Asset ActionsAsset actions allow for quick remote actions to be performed on an asset. Actions include WOL, Ping, Telnet, Remote Desktop, Event viewer, Reboot, Shutdown and more. DeploymentsLansweeper's deployment module allows for the deployment of packages on Windows assets. Deployments packages can be an installation or removal of software, but also any kind of script that can be run in the Windows command line. AlertsAlerts within Lansweeper are divided between event log alerts and report alerts. Event log alerts allow for an alert to be created for any event log entry that is scanned. This is frequently used for closely monitoring critical systems. To aid with the accuracy and speed of the alerts, specific event log scanning methods can be used on a low scan interval. Report alerts are scheduled alerts that send data of a specified report. These alerts will only send if the selected report contains data. This combination allows for a very customizable alert system. For example, by scheduling a report which returns assets that have been scanned the last five minutes, and using a five-minute interval, alerts can be used to monitor based on the set interval. The shortest interval is every minute. Software Inventory & AuditSoftware InventoryLansweeper automatically scans software for all Windows, Linux, Unix and Mac operating systems. Software name, version publisher and install date and whether the software is user specific or not are scanned. Additionally, license keys for software can also be scanned if these are available in the registry. Lansweeper provides built-in views to view all your software data by simply clicking on the item you want to view straight from the software view of an asset. This way you can easily see how many and which other machines are running similar software, a similar version or software from the same publisher. ReportingReporting on software can be done with one of the 25 built-in reports or the many views available like "changes in the past 7 days" or overview reports to get a complete list of all installed software. Any built-in report can be customized in the visual report builder and reports for specific cases can also be created. One of the most common use cases for a custom report is an overview of all devices with, or without software X or Y on it. IT Help DeskLansweeper also has a built-in help desk/service desk module. The help desk ticketing system can be connected to any email address to import emails as tickets or can be used as an internal help desk system where employees log into Lansweeper to view their tickets. Because the help desk is a part of Lansweeper, agents handling tickets can quickly view information regarding the user's devices to help resolve issues. The help desk also includes a knowledgebase for both internal and external use. Lansweeper users can create knowledgebase articles for internal IT documentation or articles for end user self-help.
