Launch-U (also known as Launch Unit/LaunchU) is a proposed size/mass class standard for small satellites. At a size of {{convert|45|x|45|x|60|cm|in}} and {{convert|60|to|80|kg|lbs}}, it is approximately half way between the cubesat (approximately 24 x 23 x 36 cm and 25 kg) and the EELV Secondary Payload Adapter (ESPA) class satellite (approximately {{convert|61|x|71|x|97|cm|in|disp=sqbr}} and {{convert|200|kg|lbs|disp=sqbr}}). The launch direction is notionally along the long axis. As with other classes, any launch adapter is within the size envelope.[1][1]The standard was proposed by The Aerospace Corporation, at the 32nd Small Satellite Conference, in August 2018.[2] References1. ^New launch unit standards announced for smallsats, Space Daily, 2018-08-08 2. ^1 [https://aerospace.org/sites/default/files/2018-08/SSC18-IX-07%20Launch%20Unit%20Standards.pdf Setting the Standard: Recommendations on “Launch Unit” Standard SmallSat Sizes between CubeSats and ESPA-Class], Carrie L.
