He helped Martin Luther King High School earn the 2015 Michigan High School Athletic Association Class 2 championship and played in the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was recognized as the Lockheed Martin Air Defender of the Year as the nation's top high school defensive back. As a junior at Michigan, he was a 2018 All-Big Ten first-team selection by both the coaches and media. He is the younger brother of Delano Hill. Early careerIn January 2015 Hill gave a verbal commitment to Penn State and transferred from Cass Technical High School to Martin Luther King High School.[1][2] In November 2015, Hill decommitted from Penn State.[3] As a high school senior, Hill tallied 12 interceptions (3 for touchdowns).[4] Hill made several catches, including two touchdowns as part of Martin Luther King's comeback victory in the 2015 Michigan High School Athletic Association Class 2 championship game over Lowell High School.[5] His brother, Delano, had won two Michigan High School Athletic Association championships at Cass Tech.[6] Lavert Hill was a participant in the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.[7] He earned the Lockeed Martin Air Defender of the Year honor as the top defensive back in the national class of 2016.[8] On February 2, 2016, he signed with Michigan with the anticipation of playing in the same defensive backfield as his brother for the first time.[9] {{College Athlete Recruit Start|40=yes|collapse=no|year=2016}}{{College Athlete Recruit Entry| recruit = Lavert Hill | position = CB | hometown = Detroit, Michigan | highschool = MLK H.S. | feet = 5 | inches = 10 | weight = 176 | 40 = 4.41 | commitdate = Feb 3, 2016 | scout stars = 4 | rivals stars = 4 | 247 stars = 4 | espn stars = 4 }}{{College Athlete Recruit End | 40 = yes | year = 2016 | rivals ref title = Michigan Football Commitments | scout ref title = 2016 Michigan Football Commits | espn ref title = ESPN | rivals school = michigan | scout s = 162 | espn schoolid = 130 | scout overall = | rivals overall = | 247 overall = | espn overall = | accessdate = November 28, 2017 | bball = }} MichiganHill's mentors at Michigan were Cass Tech alums cornerback Jourdan Lewis and his safety brother.[4] He made his debut on September 3, 2016 against Hawaii in the season opener as one of 17 true freshmen to appear in the game.[10] Hill's first career start was for the 2017 Michigan Wolverines football team against Florida on September 2, 2017. He had an interception return for a touchdown a week later against Cincinnati.[11] Following the season Hill earned 2017 All-Big Ten team recognition from the coaches (second team) and the media (honorable mention).[12][13] His brother, Delano, had been a second team (coaches) and honorable mention (media) honoree for the 2016 All-Big Ten team.[14] On October 13, 2018 against Wisconsin, Hill recorded a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown. He became the third player in Michigan program history to register two interception returns for touchdowns, following Lance Dottin and Thom Darden.[15] Following the season, Hill was named to the 2018 All-Big Ten defensive first-team by both the coaches and media.[16] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2015/03/penn_state_2016_recruiting_stu_1.html|title=Penn State 2016 recruiting: Stud 5-star DT Rashan Gary highlights 'All-Wish List' defense|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=March 4, 2015|website=PennLive.com|author=Hockensmith, Dustin}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/high-school/2015/04/12/prep-insider-coaches-bemoan-transfers-king-benefits/25685739/|title=Coaches bemoan transfers as King stockpiles talent|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=April 12, 2015|work=The Detroit News|author=Goricki, David}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2015/11/four-star_cb_lavert_hill_decom.html|title=Four-star CB Lavert Hill decommits from Penn State, gets visit from Jim Harbaugh|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=November 29, 2015|website=MLive.com|author=Baumgardner, Nick}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.mgoblue.com/news/2017/9/11/football-kornacki-hill-off-to-great-start-as-starting-cornerback.aspx|title=Kornacki: Hill Off to Great Start as Starting Cornerback|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=September 11, 2017|website=MGoBlue.com|publisher=CBS Interactive}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=https://secondhalf.mhsaa.com/All-News/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/4347/King-Completes-Perfect-Run-on-Final-Play|title=King Completes Perfect Run On Final Play|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=November 27, 2015|publisher=Michigan High School Athletic Association|author=Khan, Bill}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.freep.com/story/sports/high-school/2017/04/26/michigan-football-draft/100926506/|title=Jourdan Lewis, Delano Hill could give Detroit Cass Tech 2 NFL draftees|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=April 26, 2017|work=Detroit Free Press|author=Snyder, Mark}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=https://scout.com/college/football/recruiting/Article/2016-US-Army-All-American-Bowl-Roster-75022951|title=2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Roster|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=December 21, 2015|publisher=Scout.com|author=Huffman, Brandon}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://usatodayhss.com/2016/army-all-american-jacob-eason-wins-u-s-army-player-of-the-year-on-night-of-award-winners|title=Jacob Eason wins U.S. Army Player of the Year on night of award winners|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=January 8, 2016|work=USA Today}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.freep.com/story/sports/high-school/2016/02/03/lavert-hill-commitment/79744918/|title=King CB Lavert Hill sings fight song, then picks U-M|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=February 3, 2016|work=Detroit Free Press|author=McCabe, Mitch}} 10. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2016/09/michigan_plays_a_whopping_17_f.html|title=Michigan plays a whopping 17 freshmen in opener vs. Hawaii|accessdate=November 28, 2017|date=September 4, 2016|website=MLive.com|author=Baumgardner, Nick}} 11. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.michigandaily.com/section/football/michigan-football-lavert-hill-jim-harbaugh-delano-hill|title=Past nagging injuries, Hill stands out in second career start|accessdate=November 29, 2017|date=September 11, 2017|work=Michigan Daily|author=Sang, Orion}} 12. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.mgoblue.com/news/2017/11/28/football-thirteen-wolverines-named-all-big-ten-on-defense-special-teams.aspx?path=football|title=Thirteen Wolverines Named All-Big Ten on Defense, Special Teams|accessdate=November 28, 2017|date=November 28, 2017|website=BigTen.org|publisher=CBS Interactive}} 13. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/112817aac.html|title=Big Ten Announces Football All-Conference Teams for Defense and Special Teams: The Big Ten Conference announced the 2017 All-Big Ten football honorees on defense and special teams on Tuesday.
