it closed in 1920.[6][7] The Baldry (later Leighton) Wesleyan Church opened in the 1870s; its date of closure is unknown.[8][9] The Leighton Hall opened in 1909 and was demolished in 2003.[10][11] Leighton School opened in 1880 and closed in 1989.[3] The former school's World War I honour roll is now preserved at the Booborowie Institute.[12] Leighton Cricket Club was formed in 1929; its date of closure is unknown.[13] Leighton Golf Club opened in 1932, but there is no reference to it after 1941.[14] Leighton was also an early council seat for the District Council of Booborowie, prior to the construction of a council chambers at Booborowie itself.[15] The locality is zoned for use in primary production, mainly for agricultural uses, with a small amount of land used for grazing livestock.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web | url=http://www.location.sa.gov.au/viewer/ | title=Search result(s) for Leighton, 5417 | publisher=Government of South Australia | work=Location SA Map Viewer | accessdate=14 December 2016}} {{Regional Council of Goyder localities}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/# |title=Search result(s) for Leighton, 5417 |publisher=Government of South Australia |work=Property Location Browser |accessdate=26 November 2016 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20161012010923/http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/ |archivedate=12 October 2016 |df= }} 3. ^1 {{cite web | url=http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/manning/pn/l/l3.htm#leighton | title=Place Names of South Australia - L | publisher=State Library of South Australia | work=The Manning Index of South Australian History | accessdate=19 January 2017}} 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article40085235 |title=Advertising |newspaper=South Australian Register |volume=XL, |issue=8782 |location=South Australia |date=7 January 1875 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=8 |via=National Library of Australia}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article108330873 |title=BOOBOROWIE. |newspaper=Kapunda Herald |volume=XL, |issue=3,249 |location=South Australia |date=29 July 1904 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=7 |via=National Library of Australia}} 6. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.premierpostal.com/cgi-bin/wsProd.sh/viewpodet.w?cdpo=8013 | title=Baldry | publisher=Premier Postal | work=Post Office Reference | accessdate=19 January 2017}} 7. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.premierpostal.com/cgi-bin/wsProd.sh/viewpodet.w?cdpo=13261 | title=Leighton | publisher=Premier Postal | work=Post Office Reference | accessdate=19 January 2017}} 8. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article35950997 |title=CORRESPONDENCE. |newspaper=Burra Record |volume=II, |issue=70 |location=South Australia |date=31 October 1879 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=3 |via=National Library of Australia}} 9. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.burrahistory.info/BurraChurches.htm#LEIGHTON%20Wesleyan | title=Burra Churches | publisher=Burra History Group | accessdate=19 January 2017}} 10. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article37329497 |title=OPENING OF LEIGHTON HALL. |newspaper=Burra Record |volume=VX, |issue=881 |location=South Australia |date=8 December 1909 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=3 |via=National Library of Australia}} 11. ^{{cite web | url=http://burrabroadcaster.com.au/local-news/leighton-reunion-this-weekend4764/ | title=Leighton Reunion This Weekend | publisher=Burra Broadcaster | accessdate=19 January 2017}} 12. ^{{cite web | url=http://monumentaustralia.org.au/themes/conflict/ww1/display/50484-leighton-school--roll-of-honour | title=Leighton School Roll of Honour | publisher=Monument Australia | accessdate=19 January 2017}} 13. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article37487563 |title=Advertising |newspaper=Burra Record |volume=50, |issue=50 |location=South Australia |date=18 December 1929 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=2 |via=National Library of Australia}} 14. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article36054515 |title=LEIGHTON GOLF CLUB |newspaper=Burra Record |volume=53, |issue=26 |location=South Australia |date=29 June 1932 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=2 |via=National Library of Australia}} 15. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article90880831 |title=Advertising |newspaper=South Australian Chronicle And Weekly Mail |volume=XIX, |issue=982 |location=South Australia |date=16 June 1877 |accessdate=19 January 2017 |page=2 |via=National Library of Australia}} 2 : Towns in South Australia|Mid North (South Australia) |
