}} General"Leili and Majnun" (Azerbaijani {Leyli və Məcnun}) - one-act ballet by Azerbaijani composer-Gara Garaev; Screenwriter and choreographer of the first production - N.M Nazirov. The libretto is written based on Nizami Ganjavi's poem "Leili and Majnun" (the third book of "Khamsa", 12th century). The premiere took place on May 25, 1969 at the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M.F. Akhundov, the artist E.G. Almaszade, the conductor R.D Abdullayev; Majnun - V.N Pletnev, Leili - T.N Mamedova. Nazirova's production was the basis of the ballet film "In the World of Legends ", filmed by the creative association "Ekran" in 1975. In the main parts, the first performers of Tamil Mammadov and Vladimir Pletnev were shot. In 2001, a new production of Leili and Majnun performed by choreographer Georgy Aleksidze at the invitation of the leadership of the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater. The premiere of the ballet took place on February 17 (soloists R. Iskenderova and G. Mirzoyev), on December 4 of the same year, the play was shown during the tour in Moscow, on the stage of the Big Theatre.[1] See also
