In March 1946 Les Field was named as an Essendon recruit[5] but ended up playing for Casterton that year. He played well for a Casterton District team against Essendon in Oct 1946.[6] He commenced playing with Essendon in 1947, performing well in the reserves[7] before making his senior debut against Fitzroy on 31 May 1947.[8] He was dropped after two games and in 1948 was reported as seeking a clearance to Hawthorn[9] but this move did not eventuate and his elite level career ended after only two games. Les Field died in September 1986.[10] Notes1. ^Historically, different sources have recorded different full names, dates of birth and death for this player, however these are the correct dates for the Les Field who came from Casterton. 2. ^{{Ref AFL Encyc|10th|274}} 3. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=A&veteranId=486517 |title=World War II Roll: Leslie Gordon Field |publisher=Commonwealth of Australia}} 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article225562142 |title=SPORTSMEN'S HONOR ROLL |newspaper=Weekly Times |issue=3835 |location=Victoria, Australia |date=16 December 1942| page=20}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article22236027 |title=ESSENDON HAVE GOOD RECRUITS |newspaper=The Argus |issue=31,063 |location=Melbourne, Victoria |date=22 March 1946 |page=16}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article22385751 |title=SPORT IN COUNTRY |newspaper=The Argus |issue=31,239 |location=Melbourne, Victoria |date=14 October 1946 |page=18}} 7. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article206022010 |title=DONS' TRIP TO W.A. |newspaper=The Age |issue=28,714 |location=Melbourne, Victoria |date=7 May 1947 |page=18}} 8. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article223922253 |title=SHOW DOWN ON STEALING OF FOOTBALLERS |newspaper=Weekly Times |issue=4067 |location=Victoria, Australia |date=4 June 1947 |page=50}} 9. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article206905661 |title=Vital Round |newspaper=The Age |issue=29048 |location=Melbourne, Victoria |date=2 June 1948 |page=10}} 10. ^{{cite web |url=http://dcc.smct.org.au/deceasedsearch/result/513165 |title=Leslie Gordon Field |publisher= Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust}} External links
