LesPAC is Quebec’s first-ever classified ad website, founded by Jean-François Ménard in 1996. In November 2011, LesPAC was purchased by Mediagrif Interactive Technologies Inc.

History

LesPAC was created by Jean-François Ménard in early 1996. The website was first accessible on March 15 of that year, at the url www.rocler.qc.ca/PAC^[1]. In its original form, LesPAC was a platform that allowed users to publish announcements about items for sale and to allow interested buyers to contact sellers for free..

The brand name "LesPAC" is an abbreviation of Les Petites Annonces Classes, which was the original name of the company founded in 1996. Since then, several evolutions of the brand have resulted in the name being shortened to the LesPAC styling still used today.

In February 1997, the website was purchased by Cyber Express, a company where Jean-François Ménard was then-vice president.

The domain "lespac.com" was registered on February 8, 1997 and has been the home of LesPAC ever since.

In 2000, LesPAC was acquired by a group of independent shareholders, who appointed Suzanne Moquin as president of LesPAC in 2001.

Beginning in 2004, LesPAC adopted a new business model that required sellers of goods to pay to publish their ads. Sellers could continue to access the website for free^[2].

In April 2007, Yellow Pages Group bought 50 percent of LesPAC for $10.6 million. Yellow Pages Group purchased the rest of the company in May 2009, but the purchase price was not disclosed^[3].

In September 2010, Yellow Pages Group launched the "Promo du jour" platform that was distributed by LesPAC and allowed web surfers to benefit from low prices on a variety of services, based on the logic of group purchases^[4].

In November 2011, Yellow Pages Group expressed a desire to separate from LesPAC in order to focus their energies on providing enterprise-level services. Mediagrif Interactive Technologies bought LesPAC for $72.5 million^[5].

On April 8, 2016, LesPAC launched a dedicated platform for real estate listings called LesPAC Immo. The site continued to use the LesPAC database but provided site users with a new navigation structure based on the location of real estate listings^[6].

On March 1, 2017, LesPAC reverted to a free service for basic use, based on a "freemium" business model^[7].
