History and descriptionLissacresig is a circular lios, {{Convert|70|m|abbr=on}} in diameter with entrances in the southwest and northeast corners.[3] The name means "ringfort of the glutton."[4] Ringforts of this type were mostly built c. AD 550–900. Internally people were housed in wooden huts. Another fort lies 900 m to the northwest; this may have served as a livestock enclosure.[5] There are three monoliths (gallauns) and an axial-stone circle in the area as well. The stone circle is formed of five large boulders; unusually, the axial stone is the longest.[6][7][8] References1. ^http://www.heritageireland.ie/media/Listing%207%20January%202003.xls {{Ireland-stub}}2. ^https://www.oireachtas.ie/parliament/media/committees/pac/correspondence/2014-meeting1180603/[PAC-R-1288]-Correspondence-3A.4-OPW-Appendix-4B.pdf 3. ^25-inch OS map 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.logainm.ie/en/11473|title=Lios an Chraosaigh/Lissacresig|publisher=}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.heritagecouncil.ie/unpublished_excavations/section13.html|title=Unpublished Excavations: RINGFORTS|publisher=}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/1927/lissacresig.html#images|title=Lissacresig|publisher=}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=https://books.google.ie/books?id=yhWFB1JAjWsC&pg=PA297&dq=Lissacresig&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi5--eLxvzRAhVMKcAKHTYEAXAQ6AEIGzAA#v=onepage&q=Lissacresig&f=false|title=A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain, Ireland and Brittany|first=Aubrey|last=Burl|date=1 January 2005|publisher=Yale University Press|via=Google Books}} 8. ^http://www.eirgridgroup.com/site-files/library/EirGrid/Appendix%20C-2%20Cultural%20Heritage%20Report%20(inc.%20History).pdf 2 : Archaeological sites in County Cork|National Monuments in County Cork |
