{{Use dmy dates|date=March 2017}}The Gabba, also known as Brisbane Cricket Ground, is an Australian sports stadium located in Brisbane, Queensland, and is home to the Queensland cricket team. It has a seating capacity of 42,000.[1]

The Gabba hosted the First Test match played between Australia and South Africa in 1931, and has since been the venue of more than 50 Test matches.[2]

The first One Day International at the venue was held in 1979, between England and West Indies. Since then more than 80 ODIs have been held.[3] In 2006, the ground held its first ever Twenty20 International between Australia and South Africa. Up to March 2017, only 3 T20Is are held at the venue.[4]

In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer")[5][6] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.[7]

The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at the Gabba was Australian pacer Bert Ironmonger in 1931, in the second innings of the first Test.[8] The best bowling figures of an innings at the Gabba was recorded by New Zealand legend Richard Hadlee, when he took 9 for 52 runs against Australia in 1985.[9]

The first ODI five-wicket haul was taken by West Indian pacer Anderson Cummins against India in 1992, when he took 5 for 31 runs.[10] The best ODI bowling figures at the venue was recorded by Englishman Chris Woakes against Australia in 2012.[11]

As of March 2017, 77 Test, 9 ODI five-wicket hauls have been taken at the Gabba.

No bowler has taken a 5-wicket haul in a T20I match at the ground.
