This is a list of top earning travel companies. This list includes major traditional travel agencies, online travel agencies, and travel management companies that are located globally.

To qualify for the list, companies must have a minimum of $100 million in sales, with at least 15% of the sales volume having been generated in the US.[1]

2016 top earning travel companies

2016 top earning travel companies rankings are based on their reported sales for the year of 2015 and only list the top 50 travel companies.[2]

Expedia added to its portfolio by acquiring Orbitz and Travelocity,[3] increasing their 2015 sales to $60.8 billion. Expedia furthered its dominance over American Express Travel, who was once the top earning travel company in 2012, and Priceline, the top earner in 2010.[4] Priceline increased total sales by 10% year over year totaling $10 billion through organic growth rather than through acquisitions. American Express experienced growth with 2015 total sales of $30 billion. Carlson Wagonlit Travel acquired Ormes,[5] and finished 2015 with $24.2 billion in sales. BCD Travel totaled sales of $23.8 billion in 2015 and increased its foothold by purchasing World Travel Services Inc.[6]

2015 top earning travel companies rankings are based on their reported sales for the year of 2014 and only list the top 50 companies.

Expedia acquired yet another travel company (Wotif Group)[7] to become 2015's top earning travel company with sales totaling 50.4 billion. Priceline Group came in at a close 2nd with $50.3 billion in total sales, while acquiring OpenTable.com.[8] The acquisition did not affect Priceline Group's total sales. With no acquisitions, or boost in sales, American Express Global Business Travel fell behind its biggest travel competitors with decreasing total sales of $29.9 billion. Carlson Wagonlit Travel saw an increase in total sales with a 5% boost in transactions in Asia/Pacific, distancing itself from BCD Travel, who had total sales of $24.2 billion.

2014 top earning travel companies rankings are based on their reported sales for the year of 2013 and only list the top 50 companies.

Expedia acquired Trivago[15] to strengthen their control of the #1 top earning travel company with total sales of $39.4 billion. The Priceline Group was the #2 top earning travel company ending 2013 with total sales of $39.2 billion. Priceline received a huge boost in sales due to the booking.com app, which more than doubled sales from $3 billion, to over $8 billion in 2013.[16] American Express Travel created a joint venture with Certares,[17] who invested $900 million. With a 50/50 split, total sales were $30.3 billion. Carlson Wagonlit Travel remained fourth on the list, while increasing business sales to the tune of $1.9 billion,[18] helping boost its total sales to $26.9 billion. BCD Travel remained fifth with 2013 sales totaling $22.4 billion.
