Kubar worked his way up in Tripolitanian politics until he was appointed a member of the National Constituent Assembly in 1950. In Libya first general election 1952, he entered parliament and served as the house speaker until he became prime minister in 1957. A financial scandal centered on the cost of a road being built in Fezzan to Sabha led to his downfall. Originally cost $5.3 million and scheduled to be completed in three years, the cost overruns led to later estimates of three times the cost. Fearing a vote of no confidence, he resigned in 1960.[3] References1. ^{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=tKQFAQAAIAAJ&q=Abdul+Majid+Kubar+1909&dq=Abdul+Majid+Kubar+1909&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ecELT9ONFJPZiAK_g7jlAw&ved=0CDcQ6AEwAg |title=Modern Libya: a study in political development - Majid Khadduri - Google Books |via=Google Books|date= |accessdate=2012-01-10}} {{LibyaPMs}}{{Libyan Foreign Ministers}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Kubar, Abdul Majid}}{{Libya-politician-stub}}2. ^http://archive.libya-al-mostakbal.org/Letters2006/August2006/jehad_azzam_ka3bar1.html 3. ^{{cite book|last1=St John|first1=Ronald Bruce|title=Historical Dictionary of Libya|date=4 June 2014|publisher=Rowman & Littlefield|isbn=9780810878761|page=187|url=https://books.google.com.my/books?id=xIrOAwAAQBAJ&pg=PA187&lpg=PA187&dq=libya+historical+dictionary+KA%27ABAR+ABDUL+MAJID&source=bl&ots=EnpYFRg7P0&sig=u0zUB21yDWr_B10rYBcGCq-g7e0&hl=en&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false}} 5 : Prime Ministers of Libya|1909 births|Foreign ministers of Libya|1986 deaths|Transport ministers of Libya |
