Long Shot is a 2019 American romantic comedy film directed by Jonathan Levine. The film stars Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron.[2] The plot follows a journalist who begins to spend time with his former babysitter, who is now running for President.

It had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 9, 2019, and is scheduled for release in United States on May 3, 2019, by Lionsgate.

Premise

Fred Flarsky, an unemployed journalist, battered by his own misfortune and self-destructive ways, courts his childhood love interest and former babysitter – who is now one of the most powerful and unattainable women on Earth.

Production

In February 2017, the project, then titled Flarsky, was announced with Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron attached to star with Jonathan Levine directing.[2] In October 2017, O'Shea Jackson Jr. was cast.[3] In November 2017, June Diane Raphael, Ravi Patel, Andy Serkis, Alexander Skarsgard, and Randall Park joined the cast as filming commenced in Montreal.[4][5][6] Scenes were filmed in Plaza de la Trinidad in Cartagena, Colombia in the end of January 2018.[7] In January 2019, it was announced the film had been retitled Long Shot.[8]

Release

The movie had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 9, 2019.[9] Originally slated to be released on February 8, 2019,[10] it was reported that the film, following highly positive test screenings, was pushed back and would be released on June 7, 2019, now positioned as a summer tentpole.[11] It was then moved up to May 3, 2019.[12]

Reception

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 92% based on 24 reviews, with an average rating of 7.85/10.[13] On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 72 out of 100 based on 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[14]
