The film is based on the novel of same name by Catherine Hanrahan, who also wrote the screenplay, while William Olsson serves as director. PlotMargaret, a Western woman living in Tokyo, Japan, loses herself to the city's dive bars and love hotels at night in order to repress the traumatic childhood memories of her schizophrenic brother. When she meets and falls for a charming Japanese gangster named Kazu, she has the opportunity to find herself again. However, the threat of a killer in the city may cause her to lose her soul completely. Cast
ProductionIn 2006, Kate Bosworth acquired the film rights to Lost Girls & Love Hotels by Canadian novelist Catherine Hanrahan. The film, which was to be titled after the novel, was to star Bosworth as the lead character Margaret and be her first foray as a producer.[1] In 2009, Nadia Connors had been tapped to adapt the novel and Jean-Marc Vallée to direct.[2] However, the project remained in development and never made it to production. In October 2017, it was announced that the project was being redeveloped under the title I Am Not a Bird (which would later be changed back to the title of the novel), with Hanrahan adapting her own novel, Swedish filmmaker William Olsson directing, and Alexandra Daddario starring in the lead role of Margaret.[3] In November 2017, Carice van Houten, Takehiro Hira, Andrew Rothney and Kate Easton were announced to join the film.[4] Filming began in Tokyo on October 27, 2017,[4][5] and completed on December 15, 2017.[6] References1. ^{{cite web|first=Borys|last=Kit|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/film-bosworth-dc/kate-bosworth-eyes-decks-death-and-darkness-idUSN0731746420070207|title=Kate Bosworth eyes decks, death and darkness|publisher=Reuters|date=February 7, 2007|accessdate=November 2, 2017}} 2. ^{{cite web|first=Monika|last=Bartyzel|url=https://www.moviefone.com/2009/12/08/jean-marc-vallee-will-helm-kate-bosworths-lost-girls-and-love-ho/|title=Jean-Marc Vallee Will Helm Kate Bosworth's 'Lost Girls & Love Hotels'|publisher=Moviefone|date=December 8, 2009|accessdate=November 2, 2017}} 3. ^{{cite web|first=Amanda|last=N'Duka|url=http://deadline.com/2017/10/alexandra-daddario-i-am-not-a-bird-film-director-william-olsson-1202180469/|title=Alexandra Daddario To Star In ‘I Am Not A Bird’ Thriller From Director William Olsson|website=Deadline Hollywood|date=October 2, 2017|accessdate=November 2, 2017}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|first=Elbert|last=Wyche|url=https://www.screendaily.com/news/feature-adaptation-i-am-not-a-bird-adds-to-cast-/5123896.article|title=Feature adaptation 'I Am Not A Bird' adds to cast|publisher=Screen Daily|date=November 2, 2017|accessdate=November 2, 2017}} 5. ^{{cite web|first=Christopher|last=Lanndry|url=https://www.instagram.com/p/BawCgwRD1Nu/|title=Instagram post|publisher=Instagram|date=October 27, 2017|accessdate=November 10, 2017}} 6. ^{{cite web|first=Christopher|last=Lanndry|url=https://www.instagram.com/p/BcynfYRHLZV/|title=Instagram post|publisher=Instagram|date=December 17, 2017|accessdate=October 20, 2018}} External links
