Lou married Scheper on December 24, 1922 in Weimar.[4] Jan Gisbert, the couple's first child was born the following year.[2] In 1922, Scheper-Berkenkamp left the Bauhaus to focus on her work with her husband and freelance art. In 1925, the family moved to Dessau for Hinnerk's job as a teacher of mural painting at the Bauhaus Dessau.[4] In Dessau, couple bore a daughter, Britta (1926), and son, Dirk (1928). Lou worked in the Bauhaus Theatre and designed a number of children's books until the couple's 1929 departure from Dessau. The couple remained associated with the Bauhaus until its closure in 1933.[2] From 1929 to 1931, Lou accompanied her husband in his travels to Moscow as an architectural colorist for the Soviet government. Between 1933 and 1945, Scheper-Berkenkamp designed a number of children's books, many of which were published following the war.[2]Following the 1957 death of her husband, Scheper-Berkenkamp worked as an architectural colorist, participating in a number of major projects, including Berliner Philharmonie, Egyptian Museum of Berlin, and Berlin Tegel Airport.[4][1] Lou Scheper-Berkenkamp died on April 11, 1976.
