Brecher and the editors of Consumer Reports.[1][2] HistoryThe book presents survey research describing the attitudes and experiences of older people in the United States based on a 1977 Consumer Reports survey of over 4000 people.[1] One reason for the study was to demonstrate that older people can have healthy sex lives.[2] At the time and place of publication, this topic was not commonly discussed.[2] MethodologyMany reviewers commented that the survey included a large and well-described sample.[3] The survey included about 130 questions.[1] Respondents ranged in age from 50-93.[1] The study recruited participants through solicitation in Consumer Reports.[3] More than 4000 people participated in the survey.[3] May Cohen described the study as the largest group of people over age 50 to answer questions on their sexuality.[3] Wardell Pomeroy said the book contained a "treasure trove of findings" and that the chapter on postmenopausal hormone therapy is absolutely "first-rate." [4] Ruth B. Weg noted that whereas other available data was clinical and did not give much personality to the data, this dataset contained social context for its information.[5] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite journal|last1=Swenson|first1=Wendell M.|title=Love, Sex, and Aging: A Consumers Union Report|journal=Mayo Clinic Proceedings|date=November 1984|volume=59|issue=11-12|pages=803–804|doi=10.1016/S0025-6196(12)65607-9}} 2. ^1 2 {{cite journal|title=LOVE, SEX, AND AGING: A Consumer's Union Report by Edward M.Brecher & the Editors of Consumer Reports|url=https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/edward-m-the-editors-of-consumer-reports-books-/love-sex-and-aging-a-consumers-union-report/|website=Kirkus Reviews|accessdate=19 April 2017|language=en-us|date=10 January 1983}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite journal|last1=Cohen|first1=May|authorlink=May Cohen|title=Sexuality in an Aging Population|journal=Canadian Family Physician|date=April 1984|volume=30|page=956|url=https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2154071/pdf/canfamphys00218-0226a.pdf|pmc=2154071}} 4. ^{{cite journal|last1=Perper|first1=Timothy|last2=Sumerlin|first2=John R.|last3=Moser|first3=Charles|last4=Pomeroy|first4=Wardell P.|last5=Omark|first5=Richard C.|title=Reviews and abstracts|journal=The Journal of Sex Research|date=11 January 2010|volume=20|issue=4|pages=415–421|doi=10.1080/00224498409551239}} 5. ^{{cite journal|last1=Weg|first1=Ruth B.|authorlink=Ruth B.
