The Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand (ALRANZ) is New Zealand's national pro-choice advocacy group. It has existed since 1971. HistoryOne of its early members was family planning doctor and pediatrician, Dr Alice Bush (1914–1974). Dr Margaret Sparrow, a Wellington gynecologist, was the president from 1975 to 1980, and again from 1984 until March 2011.[1] Sparrow also had long-standing involvement with the Family Planning Association of New Zealand until her retirement.[2][3][4] Dr Morgan Healey became president in March 2011. Policy positionALRANZ supports total decriminalisation of abortion in New Zealand. The organisation is based in Wellington, puts out a quarterly newsletter, and has its own website. ALRANZ supported Labour Party MP Steve Chadwick's 2010 bill to decriminalise abortion up to 24 weeks.[5] See also
