The Maa Flyover (also Parama Island Flyover) is a {{convert|4.5|km|mi}} long flyover in Kolkata.[1] It is built along Park Circus Connector and connects E.M. Bypass with Park Circus 7-point crossing then to Vidyasagar Setu to Howrah via the existing AJC Bose Road Flyover. After both ramps of the flyover connecting it with AJC Bose Road Flyover were completed in early 2019, the flyover forms a seamless, no-signal traffic corridor from EM Bypass to Alipore. The total length of the flyover, including the ramps, is 9.2 km. The flyover started its construction in February 2010. The project had an original deadline of August 2012, and the deadline was extended multiple times.[2] After a huge cost-overrun and delays, the main flyover was opened on 9 October 2015 at a cost of {{INR}} 460-crores.[3][4][5] The 450-meter east bound flank of the flyover, which directly connects AJC Bose Road Flyover with the flyover from Exide Side to EM Bypass, was opened in August 2016[6] while the west bound flank of the flyover connecting it to AJC Bose Road Flyover was opened in February 2019.[7] Barring a stretch of 684.31-meters constructed by Larsen & Tubro, the flyover was constructed by Hindustan Construction Company.[6] Route timings and restrictionsThe flyover which was opened without completion of the flanks connecting AJC Bose Road flyover, resulted in massive traffic jams after initial inauguration. With the pressure mounting Kolkata Police was forced to temporarily shut down the flyover for few hours.[8] After initial discussion, Kolkata Police devised a solution allowing only one-way traffic (during certain time of the day) as an interim solution until the connecting flanks were completed.[9][10] Timings from 27 October 2015 to August 2016.[11]
The flyover is also closed for heavy vehicles including buses and trucks, auto-rickshaws and pedestrian traffic.[12] From 9 February 2019, after the inauguration of the flank from Maa Flyover to AJC Bose Road, traffic moves both ways with other restrictions still in law.[7] {{commons category|Parama-Park Circus Flyover}}References1. ^{{cite news|last1=Roy|first1=Subhajoy|title=Ma for Manush to fly over Mati|url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1151013/jsp/calcutta/story_47692.jsp#.Vih41n4rKM8|accessdate=22 October 2015|publisher=The Telegraph|date=13 October 2015}} {{coord missing|West Bengal}}2. ^{{cite news|last1=Roy|first1=Subhajoy|title=Flyover in limbo as jilted firm drags govt to court|url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1140307/jsp/calcutta/story_18054753.jsp#.VgzJmPmqqkp|accessdate=1 October 2015|publisher=The Telegraph|date=7 March 2014}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=High fives for longest flyover|url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/High-fives-for-longest-flyover/articleshow/49294894.cms|accessdate=22 October 2015|date=10 October 2015}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=Kolkata to get state’s longest flyover linking Howrah with EM Bypass|url=http://www.hindustantimes.com/kolkata/kolkata-to-get-state-s-longest-flyover-linking-howrah-with-em-bypass/story-woa8zuEzUUFRIykcWMXwFP.html|accessdate=7 October 2015|date=7 October 2015}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=West Bengal eyes Mahalaya for Parama flyover opening|url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/West-Bengal-eyes-Mahalaya-for-Parama-flyover-opening/articleshow/48061991.cms|accessdate=28 September 2015|agency=TNN|publisher=Times of India|date=14 July 2015}} 6. ^1 {{cite news|last1=Basu|first1=Kinksuk|title=Firm seeks two roads for flyover work|url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1150929/jsp/calcutta/story_45147.jsp#.VgzDYfmqqko|accessdate=1 October 2015|publisher=The Telegraph|date=28 September 2015}} 7. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/cut-travel-time-by-half-take-new-maa-ramp-to-cover-bypass-race-course-link-in-15-mins/articleshow/67908094.cms|title=Cut travel time by half, take new Maa ramp to cover Bypass-Race Course link in 15 minutes - Times of India|website=The Times of India|access-date=2019-02-12}} 8. ^{{cite news|last1=Mehta|first1=Pooja|title=Parama Island flyover in Kolakata shuts down temporarily|url=http://www.iamin.in/en/jadavpur/news/parama-island-flyover-kolakata-shuts-down-temporarily-72285|accessdate=22 October 2015|publisher=DNA|date=10 October 2015}} 9. ^{{cite news|last1=Basu|first1=Kinksuk|title=Snarl shields scrapped|url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1151015/jsp/calcutta/story_48089.jsp#.Vih09H4rKM-|accessdate=22 October 2015|publisher=The Telegraph|date=15 October 2015}} 10. ^{{cite news|title=One-way rule to ease flyover jam|url=http://epaperbeta.timesofindia.com/Article.aspx?eid=31812&articlexml=TEST-DRIVE-TILL-LAKSHMI-PUJA-One-way-rule-14102015004019|accessdate=22 October 2015|agency=Times of India|date=14 October 2015}} 11. ^{{cite news|title=Parama traffic plan tweaked|url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1151028/jsp/calcutta/story_50028.jsp|accessdate=29 October 2015|publisher=The Telegraph|date=28 October 2015}} 12. ^{{cite news|last1=Chakraborty|first1=Ajanta|title=Bypass flyover off limits to bus, truck|url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/Bypass-flyover-off-limits-to-bus-truck/articleshow/49249981.cms|accessdate=22 October 2015|publisher=The Times of India|date=7 October 2015}} 3 : Bridges in Kolkata|Bridges completed in 2015|2015 establishments in India |
