She started racing in 2014, and was promoted to the World Cup circuit for the first time (replacing Ashleigh Fay Pittaway) at Igls in December, 2017, where she finished 17th. Her best finish on the ICC was 5th, achieved at three races in Calgary, and she won both North American Cup races in Park City in 2017.[1][2] She came to skeleton from athletics, where she was a hurdler, at the suggestion of aerial skier Lloyd Wallace.[3] References1. ^{{cite web | publisher = International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation | accessdate = 2017-12-17 | title = Madelaine SMITH | url = http://www.ibsf.org/en/athletes/athlete/263241/SMITH}} 2. ^{{cite web | publisher = International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation | accessdate = 2017-12-17 | title = Media Guide Athletes: Skeleton – Innsbruck (AUT) | date = 15–17 December 2017 | url = http://www.ibsf.org/images/news/Media_Guide_17-18/IBSF_Media_Guide_17-18_skeleton_5_Innsbruck.pdf | format = PDF}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web | publisher = British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association | accessdate = 2017-12-22 | title = Madelaine Smith | url = http://www.thebbsa.co.uk/the-team/directory/madelaine-smith}} External links
