The death of inmate Justin Campos on October 1, 2013, raised questions about safety in the facility. After Campos was killed by another inmate, officials offered his family contradictory versions of his whereabouts at the time, withheld basic information from his mother, and sent her invoices for more than $4000 for providing heavily redacted public records she requested.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Madison Correctional Institution|url=http://www.dc.state.fl.us/facilities/region2/216.html|website=Florida Department of Corrections|accessdate=22 August 2016}} {{coord|30.440920|-83.421249|format=dms|display=title|type:landmark}}{{State prisons in Florida}}{{Florida-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|last1=Kam|first1=Dara|title=Slain Inmate's Mother Persists In Seeking Answers From State|url=http://www.theledger.com/article/20140724/NEWS/140729452|accessdate=23 August 2016|publisher=Lakeland (Florida) Ledger|date=24 July 2014}} 3 : Prisons in Florida|Buildings and structures in Madison County, Florida|1989 establishments in Florida |
