[1] The municipality was established on 18 May 2014 named "Api Municipality" merging the former village development committees of: Brahmadev, Chhapari, Dhap, Kante and Khalanga.[2][3] The total area of "Api municipality" had {{convert|1314|km2|mi2}} and it had total population of 20,797 people.[4] Fulfilling the requirement of the new Constitution of Nepal 2015, all old municipalities and villages (which were more than 3900 in number) were restructured into 753 new units, thus this municipality upgraded into Mahakali municipality[5] [6] [7] On 10 March 2017, during upgradation of Api municipality a small portion of this municipality (ward 1, 2 & 3) excluded from it and Dattu Village development committee merged to it and renamed as Mahakali municipality. [8] Now total area of the municipality has {{convert|135.11|km2|mi2}} and total population of it is 21231 people, the municipality is divided into total 9 wards.[8] [9] References1. ^{{cite web |url= http://103.69.124.141/ |title= स्थानीय तहहरुको विवरण |trans-title =Details of the local level bodies |language =Nepali |access-date= 17 July 2018 |website= www.mofald.gov.np/en |publisher=Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development}} {{Geographic location2. ^72 new municipalities announced {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140618191026/http://www.myrepublica.com/portal/index.php?action=news_details&news_id=74336 |date=June 18, 2014 }} My Republica 3. ^Govt announces 72 new municipalities The Kathmandu Post 4. ^{{cite web|url= http://apimun.gov.np/sites/apimun.gov.np/files/documents/%E0%A5%A7%20%E0%A4%85%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%BF%20%E0%A4%A8%E0%A4%97%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B2%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%95%E0%A5%8B%20%E0%A4%B8%E0%A4%82%E0%A4%95%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B7%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%A4%20%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%9A%E0%A4%AF.pdf |title=अपि नगरपालिकाको संक्षिप्त परिचय |trans-title= Short introduction of Api municipality |date=17 January 2017 |website=apimun.gov.np |publisher= |access-date=18 August 2018}} 5. ^{{cite news |url= https://thehimalayantimes.com/nepal/new-local-level-structure-comes-effect-today/ |title= New local level structure comes into effect from today |date=10 March 2017 |website=www.thehimalayantimes.com |publisher=The Himalayan Times |access-date=17 July 2018}} 6. ^{{cite web |url= http://citypopulation.de/php/nepal-mun-admin.php?adm2id=7502 |title= Govt prepares to add 9 more local levels in Province 2 |date=11 August 2017 |website=www.kathmandupost.ekantipur.com |publisher= Kantipur Publication |access-date=15 August 2018}} 7. ^{{cite web |url= http://kathmandupost.ekantipur.com/news/2017-03-11/new-local-level-units-come-into-existence.html |title= New local level units come into existence |date=11 March 2017 |website=www.kathmandupost.ekantipur.com |publisher= |access-date=18 July 2018}} 8. ^1 {{cite web |url= http://mofald.gov.np/sites/default/files/News_Notices/Final%20District%201-75%20Corrected%20Last%20for%20RAJPATRA.pdf |title=District Corrected Last for RAJAPATRA |date= |website=www.mofald.gov.np |publisher= |access-date=17 July 2018}} 9. ^{{cite web |url= https://www.citypopulation.de/php/nepal-mun-admin.php?adm2id=7505 |title= CITY POPULATION – statistics, maps & charts |date=10 August 2017 |website=www.citypopulation.de |publisher= |access-date=16 August 2018}} |Centre = Mahakali |North = Dunhu |Northeast = |East = Naugad |Southeast = Shailyashikhar |South = Malikaarjun |Southwest = |West = {{flagicon|India}} Dharchula, Pithoragadh (Uttrakhand) |Northwest = }}{{Darchula District}} 5 : Municipalities in Sudurpashchim Pradesh|Nepal municipalities established in 2014|Populated places in Darchula District|Darchula District|Sudurpashchim Pradesh |
