It is the only film that Speeth and Liepolt made. PlotThe Norris family arrive at an old, dilapidated carnival, looking for their son. Bad things begin happening and it seems to be attributed to the proprietors of the carnival. The entire thing appears to be a front, for some strange, cannablistic, underground cult, who feast on the flesh of the visitors. Cast
Release{{expand section|date=July 2018}}Home mediaThe film was released for the first time on DVD and Bluray by Arrow Video on December 12, 2017.[2] Reception{{expand section|date=July 2018}}Jon Condit from Dread Central gave the film a score of 3.5 out of 5, writing, "While Malatesta's is certainly not a terrible film, it is definitely not one that I would recommend to the general horror viewing public. I would save this recommendation for those who can appreciate the cult classics, and who have a taste for the unusual or downright bizarre."[3] TV Guide awarded the film 1/5 stars, calling it "a fairly typical, offbeat number".[4] Chris Coffel from Bloody Disgusting rated the film a score of 3/5, writing, "In a way it's sort of like The Hands of Fate but quite a bit more fun and enjoyable."[5] Brett Gallman from Oh, the Horror! wrote, "Malatesta's Carnival of Blood approaches the intersection of refined gothic horror, scummy drive-in exploitation, and Eurotrash fever dreams; rather than do so cautiously, it plunges headlong, creating a messy but compelling collision, leaving viewers to sift through the malformed wreckage."[6] Bill Gibron from DVD Talk gave the film 3/5 stars, noting that although it wasn't a classic, he stated that the film "does contain a decisive doorway into Christopher Eric Speeth's addteurism".[7] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://gruesomemagazine.com/2016/07/17/malatestas-carnival-blood-1973-creepy-psychedelic-tone-poem-early-70s/|title=“Malatesta’s Carnival of Blood” (1973): A Creepy and Psychedelic Tone Poem from the Early 70s|last=Cardullo|first=Paul |date=17 July 2016|publisher=Gruesome Magazine|accessdate=11 February 2017}} 2. ^{{cite web |title=Malatesta's Carnival (1973) - Christopher Speeth |url=https://www.allmovie.com/movie/malatestas-carnival-v101036/releases |website=Allmovie.com |publisher=AllMovie |accessdate=27 July 2018}} 3. ^{{cite web |last1=Condit |first1=Jon |title=Malatesta's Carnival of Blood (1973) - Dread Central |url=http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/3960/malatesta-s-carnival-of-blood-1973/ |website=Dread Central.com |publisher=Jon Condit |accessdate=27 July 2018}} 4. ^{{cite web |title=Malatesta's Carnival - Movie Reviews and Movie Ratings |url=https://www.tvguide.com/movies/malatestas-carnival/review/105352/ |website=TV Guide.com |publisher=TV Guide |accessdate=27 July 2018}} 5. ^{{cite web |last1=Coffel |first1=Chris |title=[Blu-ray Review] 'The American Horror Project - Vol 1' Sheds Light on Lesser Known American Horror - Bloody Disgusting |url=https://bloody-disgusting.com/reviews/3387384/blu-ray-review-american-horror-project-vol-1-sheds-light-lesser-known-american-horror/ |website=Bloody Disgusting.com |publisher=Chris Coffel |accessdate=27 July 2018}} 6. ^{{cite web |last1=Gallman |first1=Brett |title=Horror Reviews - Malatesta's Carnival of Blood (1973) |url=http://www.oh-the-horror.com/page.php?id=1837 |website=Oh the Horror.com |publisher=Brett Gallman |accessdate=27 July 2018}} 7. ^{{cite web |last1=Gibron |first1=Bill |title=Malatesta's Carnival of Blood : DVD Talk Review of the DVD Video |url=https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/17597/malatestas-carnival-of-blood/ |website=DVD Talk.com |publisher=Bill Gibron |accessdate=27 July 2018}} External links
