HistoryIn March 2018, Manchester United announced their intentions to form a women's football team.[3] Manchester United Women Football Club were founded on 28 May 2018, following the club's successful application to join the newly-formed 2018–19 FA Women's Championship.[1][2] It marked the club's return to women's football after a thirteen-year absence, following Manchester United's disbandment of their women's set-up back in 2005 to focus on youth team football; though the club's academy continued via the Manchester United Foundation, with the likes of Izzy Christiansen and Katie Zelem being produced by United's Centre of Excellence academy.[4][5] Casey Stoney was appointed as the club's first head coach on 8 June,[6] with their inaugural 21-player squad announced just over a month later. The team's first game back was on 19 August 2018, where they won 1–0 in an away game against Liverpool in the FA Women's League Cup, with Lizzie Arnot scoring their first competitive goal in thirteen years.[7] Three weeks later, their opening Championship encounter ended in a 12–0 victory away to Aston Villa.[8] GroundFollowing the club's acceptance into the 2018–19 FA Women's Championship, it was revealed that the women's team would be based in Broughton, Salford at The Cliff training ground; subject to completion of redevelopment work.[2] United play their fixtures at Leigh Sports Village.[9] Moss Lane serves as a backup venue for when the Sports Village is unavailable.[10] PlayersCurrent squad{{updated|8 March 2019}}[11]{{fs start}}{{fs player |no=1 |nat=ENG |pos=GK |name=Siobhan Chamberlain }}{{fs player |no=2 |nat=ENG |pos=DF |name=Martha Harris }}{{fs player |no=3 |nat=ENG |pos=DF |name=Alex Greenwood |other=captain }}{{fs player |no=4 |nat=ENG |pos=DF |name=Amy Turner }}{{fs player |no=6 |nat=ENG |pos=MF |name=Aimee Palmer }}{{fs player |no=7 |nat=ENG |pos=FW |name=Ella Toone }}{{fs player |no=8 |nat=ENG |pos=MF |name=Mollie Green }}{{fs player |no=9 |nat=ENG |pos=FW |name=Jessica Sigsworth }}{{fs player |no=10 |nat=ENG |pos=MF |name=Katie Zelem }}{{fs player |no=11 |nat=ENG |pos=FW |name=Leah Galton }}{{fs mid}}{{fs player |no=13 |nat=ENG |pos=GK |name=Emily Ramsey }}{{fs player |no=14 |nat=ENG |pos=MF |name=Charlie Devlin }}{{fs player |no=15 |nat=ENG |pos=DF |name=Lucy Roberts }}{{fs player |no=16 |nat=ENG |pos=MF |name=Lauren James }}{{fs player |no=17 |nat=SCO |pos=FW |name=Lizzie Arnot }}{{fs player |no=18 |nat=SCO |pos=FW |name=Kirsty Hanson }}{{fs player |no=20 |nat=SCO |pos=DF |name=Kirsty Smith }}{{fs player |no=21 |nat=ENG |pos=DF |name=Millie Turner }}{{fs end}}Out on loan{{fs start}}{{fs player |no=19 |nat=ENG |pos=FW |name=Ebony Salmon|other=on loan at Sheffield United until 30 June 2019 }}[12]{{fs player |no=22 |nat=ENG |pos=GK |name=Fran Bentley|other=on loan at Sheffield United until 30 June 2019 }}[13]{{fs player |no=12 |nat=ENG |pos=DF |name=Naomi Hartley|other=on loan at Sheffield United until 30 June 2019 }}{{fs end}}Coaching staff
