It is classified as a special grade municipality.[1] AdministrationThe municipality was establishment in the year 1969 and has an extent of {{convert|17.53|km2|mi2|abbr=on}}.[2][1] Mangalagiri municipality and its out gowths of Navuluru and Atmakur are a part of Vijayawada urban agglomeration.[3] The Elected Wing of the municipality consists of a municipal council, which has elected members and is headed by a Chairperson.[4] Whereas, the Executive Wing is headed by a municipal commissioner.[4] The chairperson of the present seventh municipal council is Ganji Chiranjeevi.[5] Wards compositionMangalagiri municipality has a total of 32 election wards. The below table shows the composition of municipal wards with unreserved and reserved (women, SC's, ST's and BC's) categories.[6]
