The species name is derived from the Latin sceletus "skeleton", from its distinctive body pattern.[3]]Like other Maratus spiders, the males of the species engage in an elaborate courtship display. The male is black with prominent white stripes and markings across its carapace and legs.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite journal |last1=Otto |first1=Jürgen C. |last2=Hill |first2=David E. |title=Two new peacock spiders of the calcitrans group from southern Queensland (Araneae: Salticidae: Euophryinae: Maratus) |journal=Peckhamia |volume=121 |issue=1 |pages=1–34 |publisher=The Peckham Society |location=Simpsonville, SC |date=20 January 2015 |url=http://peckhamia.com/peckhamia/PECKHAMIA_121.1.pdf |issn=2161-8526 |accessdate=28 February 2015}}
