Marijuana Enforcement Tracking Reporting Compliance (METRC) is a system for tracking state-legalized cannabis in California and Colorado. In 2017, a $59 million two-year contract was awarded by the State of California to Florida-based Franwell to create the system and supply RFID tags.[ The system was first developed for Colorado in 2011.[2] As of mid-2017, Franwell's system was in use in California, Colorado, Oregon, Maryland, Alaska and Michigan.[3] In June, 2017, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board de-selected Franwell for a state tracking contract, preferring vendor(s) who had multiple means of tracking other than proprietary RFID technology, and entry of "non-compliant" data such as production outside of stipulated limits.[4][5]]References1. ^1 {{Citation |title=Colorado sticking with METRC for marijuana seed to sale tracking|work=The Cannabist|author=Alicia Wallace|date=January 24, 2018|url=https://www.thecannabist.co/2018/01/24/colorado-marijuana-tracking-system/97394/}} 2. ^1 {{citation|title=Pot-legal states try to curb smuggling in U.S.|author=Andrew Selsky|publisher=The Associated Press|date=August 14, 2017|via=Toronto Sun|url=https://torontosun.com/2017/08/14/pot-legal-states-try-to-curb-smuggling-in-us}} 3. ^1 {{citation|title=Franwell and METRC Withdrawal Proposal; MJ Freeway Is Washington’s New Marijuana Traceability Software|date=June 8, 2017 |publisher=MJ News Network|url=http://mjnewsnetwork.com/legal/franwell-and-metrc-withdrawal-proposal-mj-freeway-wins-new-marijuana-traceability/}} 4. ^1 {{citation|title=A Seed-to-Sale Shakeup|date=June 2017|author=Steven Nelson|work=Cannabis Business Times|location=Valley View, Ohio|url=http://magazine.cannabisbusinesstimes.com/article/june-2017/a-seed-to-sale-shakeup.aspx}}
