}}Marsha Chantol de Cordova (born 23 January 1976)[1][2] is a British Labour Party politician who was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Battersea at the 2017 general election.[3] She defeated the Conservative Minister Jane Ellison.[4] In October 2017, she was appointed Shadow Minister for Disabled People, following the resignation of Marie Rimmer.[5][6]

Personal life

De Cordova has nystagmus and is registered blind. Most recently, de Cordova worked at leading sight loss charity Thomas Pocklington Trust[7] where she was the Director of Engagement and Advocacy. She was previously the Chief Executive Officer for the charity South East London Vision and before that worked for Action for Blind People.[8][9][10]

Political activity

De Cordova was a Labour Party councillor for the Larkhall ward on Lambeth Council. De Cordova was elected in 2014 with 1,809 votes and 19% of the overall vote, finishing ahead of the two other Labour candidates. After becoming an MP, she did not seek re-election in the 2018 local elections.[11]
