Originally there was no shelter on the platform, until one was erected between November 1889 and March 1891.[1]The station serves Marton, the largest town in the Rangitikei district, which is in the Manawatu-Wanganui region of New Zealand. Refreshment rooms were opened about May 1905, but with faster trains and railcars in the 1950s the need for refreshment stops reduced, and they closed on 14 June 1954.[2] References1. ^{{cite book | last = Scoble | first = Juliet | title = Names & Opening & Closing Dates of Railway Stations in New Zealand, 1863 to 2012 | publisher = | date = 2012 | location = Wellington | isbn = | page= 67 |ref=harv}} {{coord missing|New Zealand}}{{NewZealand-railstation-stub}}2. ^{{cite book |last= Melody |first= Paul |title= They called it Marton: The Life and Times of Marton, 1866-1979 |accessdate= |edition= |origyear= 1979 |year= 1981 |publisher= G.P.H.
